Tried to update ipod Touch 4th Generation, Update Failed, iPod won't work
So less than twenty minutes ago I tried to update my iPod touch, knowing it had been asking this for a few days. The update failed, as as of now my iPod Touch is stuck on the picture of the iPod cable with an arrow pointing at the iTunes symbol. I've tried holding the two buttons to force it to shut off, it does- when I turn it on I get the apple logo so I know it turned on, only to get it again. When plugged into my computer, it is not recognized by anything. Going to Computer it doesn't see it as plugged in, and on iTunes nothing comes up with connected objects. This happened to me once in the past and I had to go to the Apple Store to have it fixed... can anyone tell me what to do so I don't have to go to them, or am I gonna have to take some time and drive over to have them take a look at it? Also, when removing my iPod from the computer, i get the sound that you get when you remove something from your computer, meaning it knows it's plugged in, just not reading it for some reason.
Thank you very much to anyone that can help!
If this is posted in the wrong area, this is my first loggin- sorry if I screwed up, mind telling me if I did?
use a computer with windows 7 turn off the firewall and uninstall service pack one, i saw this advice elsewhere and was having your problem and it worked now to get my apps back grrr lol
thanks for the answer, but this is outragous, that apple makes me unroll a windows service pack to accomodate this bugged ipod touch 4g, i believe there must be a better solution and hope apple will come out with a stable itunes or ipod 4.3 firmware
this issue and some others answered elsewhere in the forums dont thank me seek them out ( the people that asked and answered ) DO NOT install 4.3.1 if you have xp unless you know someone with a win 7 computer. to get it to stop hanging ( pain in the keister here but it worked for me ) step one uninstall win 7 service pack 1 : step 2 reboot: step 3 disable the firewall : step four plug bricked ipod into usb port ... step 5 breath huge sigh of relief lol . anyone who hasnt installed this thing yet on windows comp if thats what you use dont do it until they ( apple ) come out with the update , if they do, thats windows friendly. i dont even see what this thing did. i got lucky to find elsewhere how to manually get my apps back and luckily it had saved the settings user names etc WHEW . best wishes
You need to kick it out of recover loop by getting a program called recboot (google it).
1) Open recboot as administrator
2) connect your ipod
3) Press the button that says "Exit Recovery"
4) Shout "Woohoo!"
I've got a similar problem. I bought a brand new iPod touch 4 8gb, and the Apple "genius" synced it to my Apple ID, so when I tried to register it on itunes, it starts verifying and then it just stops. I don't know what goes wrong. It just stops verifying and I can't add or do anything on it.
Same here! taothegreat, whatever happened to you happened to me! So my network "timed out" while verifying, and now I've got an elegant PAPERWEIGHT instead of a NEW IPOD
Windows 7 users: as suggested in this thread, I removed Service Pack 1. My once-bricked iPod Touch 4th gen was restored to its original settings very quickly on reboot of the computer. I'm deferring the iOS update.
I can't install windows service pack as my computer is new - apparently you can only uninstall it if you physically installed it yourself, not if it comes already on your new pc.
What else can I do? Windows 7 user with the same problem...
After getting really angry about this, I found an easy solution:
FIND A FRIEND WITH A MAC! I connected my bricked ipod touch to the Mac. The same error message came up. I performed the restore on the Mac and it fixed everything. No more recovery loop. This is much easier than any other suggestions (as long as you have a friend with a Mac of course).
sorry wig - i will not do this, found out that itunes and my firewall zone alarm seem to get along badly, switch zone alarm off and my ipod 4g synches fine... i consider the problem solved, however I presume that itunes spies on me and zone alarm does a good job in shutting it up!
My tale of woe is similar to the multiple posts re: pc not recognizing my iPod as I updated iTunes o 3/31/11.My computer froze and all kinds of warning boxes appeared. As I stared at the usb pix and iTunes icon plastered on my iPod screen,I searched interventions... I uninstalled per suggestions on the Apple site: iTunes, Quicktime, etc. I restarted and ...no iPod. emailed for tech support who promptly called me back. 45 to no avail, trying a variety of tricks. I made and kept a Genius Bar appt. 1.5 hours at the Apple Store, with 3 other PC owners with same problem. No solution. Spoke to tech support today, and she was was smart enough to transfer me to a supervisor who spent over 60 min with me...but solved the issue after a number of failed strategies. This is what worked: Go to start and type in Device Manager in the Search Menu. 1st check to see if the iPod appears in Universal Bus or Personal Devices...Mine was under Portable Device. Highlight you iPod and the go to Edit and Update Driver Software. Keep clicking continue and then highlight "Browse my computer. Find the Apple Driver and click on...Update.
Even though I had uninstalled and reinstalled EVERYthing twice, and it was in place, the driver did not automatically update. Once I did this, put the pod usb back into the computer, it recognized my ipod...that is after hitting the home button 3 or 4 times to nudge it.
One of the techs in the Apple store said I should buy a Mac. The problem is not the PC, it is iTunes software update...methinks, that did something very naughty to my PC. I had to resync everything and it took another hour, but all is well.
Good Luck...I was ready to name this the "iTunes.hates.PCgate" had I not found a solution...but I did;-)
