Pictures wrong on display (negative)?

Recently I tried adding some pictures to my ipod nano, but the images seem to get distorted when itunes loads them into my ipod: it looks like a (film) negative. Colours of faces are blue, purple etc. And the eyes and other dark areas are white/green (for example). Is Itunes doing this? Can I shut this off?

I am very satisfied with my nano when listening to music, podcasts and radio (bougth it in november).
