booting linux from a dvd
i had my mac boot to a linux dvd now how to i get back to the mac os snow leopard.
imac, Mac OS X (10.6.6)
Hold down the power switch until it reboots.

Just restart the computer.
i've tried rebooting several times and no luck. its looking for a dvd. tried holding down the shift key to get to safe mode but that didn't work either. it wants the mac os dvd i guess but i cant find mine.
It sounds like Linux wrote over enough of the disk so that the operating system is now totally unusable.
Without your install DVD for your Mac you are basically hosed then.

You said you booted from the Linux CD. You didn't say you actually tried to install Linux.

You can try holding down the OPTION key after the startup chime to evoke the boot manager. If your OS X volume appears then select it and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
If no OS X volume appears then it would seem you've installed Linux on your boot volume. In this case you will have to repartition and reformat the drive then reinstall OS X.
