Anyone using a HDMI to component cable?

Using an Apple TV 2

My TV doesn't have HDMI - I see cables for sale, but not at the Apple store. Anyone use one so I know it will work?

Thanks

Alina_Sofia, HDMI is digital video and digital audio, therefore you will not find a simple cable that will output DVI-D digital video signals and analog audio signals. You can buy digital audio to analog audio converter that will accept the digital optical toslink out from the ATV2/3 and convert it to two channel audio. However, be cautious that the converter has the intelligence to decode Digital Dolby 5.1 to two channel audio, some will and some won't, and you probably don't want to be stuck with one (like me) that does nothing when it gets a 5.1 encoded stream. Check Amazon for reviews, something like the Genfen GTV-DD-2-AA digital to audio decoder, NOT a digital to audio adapter. (I since upgraded my HT system so don't need to do this anymore. The digital to audio adapter I have was still usable, it just required telling the source to only output stereo everytime I put in a DVD that had Digital Dolby.)

Here's what you need:

Ziatron and SoccerRef mentioned these products earlier and they work great:

1. The HDFury3 (or HDFury4) will convert your Apple TV 2's HDMI output to analog component video (Red, Green, Blue) and analog stereo audio (Red, White). To hook your Apple TV 2 up to your older TV with component video input, you would need an HDMI cable, an HDFury3, and a component video cable. Keep in mind, your TV must support 720p video through its component video input and you may have to adjust the audio settings on your Apple TV to output PCM audio (not sure if HDFury3 will process Dolby Digital or DTS bitstreams). Also, HDFury3 costs $250... once you also factor in the cost of an HDMI cable and a component video cable, maybe it makes more sense to just get a more current TV. Used plasma and LCD TVs typically sell for about half price after about 2 years or so. I just saw a couple 42" plasmas (with HDMI inputs) for under $350 on craigslist.

2. The Gefen Toolbox GTVDD2AA optical (Toslink) digital audio to analog stereo audio adapter is excellent for converting digital audio to analog stereo audio (Red, White). I've used this with Dolby Digital and it works great.

"To keep 5.1 option with an out of date HTIB receiver; would I be able to go optical out from ATV2 into receiver while running HDMI from ATV2 to TV?"

I'm doing exactly that with the ATV since my TV does not route 5.1 DTS/Dolby II out from the audio signal it gets over the HDMI. Does mean I have to switch both the receiver and tv inputs (Harmony remote on the horizion).

If you have a VGA port free this simple accesory at the apple store will do what you need Atleast thats what it claims and its in the apple store.. and Seems like it does work .

I have a Marantz SR5600 Receiver unit. It appears to support digital video in connections, although it doesn't have any DVI or HDMI ports.

My TV is a 20 year old tube that features only SCART connections. I've set it up to accept the Monitor Out from the Marantz, by a component video cable plugged into a component-to-scart plug. Playback is fine.

The only question is whether or not I can use the Apple TV HDMI signal and plug it into the Marantz with some converter cable.

Any ideas?
