itunes won't detect ipad 2

I've installed and re-installed the latest itunes 64bit on my win 7 machine. yet itunes will not detect it.
I've tried multiple usb cables. tried differnt usb ports yet to no avail.
every so often it will detect and let me sync but 99% of the time its an everyday battle to get my ipad to detect on itunes.

I have an iphone 4 that seems to detect fine. yet i can't figure out why ipad 2 wont detect. I've even restored my ipad 2.

I've tried everything I can think of.
I even formatted my computer, download itunes and install it on a fresh system and same problem.

I'm at my wits end. I can't understand why its so hard to detect it.

device manager sees it fine. but itunes locks up when i connect the ipad 2. if I disconnect it, itunes becomes available. Everytime I connect my ipad itunes throws a fit and becomes unusable for like 5 min, a very long pause as it thinks about something.

anyone have a workaround for this?

I went to the apple store and a tech there told me, buy a mac, that will sole your problem....seriously?
then he said or uninstall and reinstall. which I've done several times, that does not fix the problem.

Ah, I see that I am not the only one experiencing this problem. Like many, I'm on Win 7, 64-bit. Only seems to affect my new iPad 2. Absolutely no problems with my iPhone 3GS. The computer is recognizing the iPad with no problem. I get the double sounds and the window pops up asking me if I want to import photos or open the device. But, in iTunes... NADA! In fact iTunes is iMobile! Just hangs for awhile. After a few minutes it unfreezes. I am going to try one thing. I looked at another post pointing to an Apple trouble shooting article (sorry, didn't think to copy the link here). Read through it and not much of use except it did suggest that certain webcam software might cause issues. I have a fairly new Logitech HD cam installed so might try uninstalling and see what happens. Will let you know if it has any effect.

Update:
I removed the software and driver for my Logitech webcam. Here is the version information. Logitech Webcam Software with Vid HD Software
Version: 2.10.1224.0
Date: 11-29-2010
Platform: Windows 7.

Based on limited testing, my iTunes now recognizes the iPad2 and does not freeze. I will do some further testing, but this may have resolved the problem for me at least. The iTunes problem is the second one I have found with this particular Logitech software. I would be curious to know how many of you experiencing iTunes not seeing your iPad also have a Logitech webcam installed. If you do, try removing the software and see if that resolves your problem. I plan to report this to Logitech.

Whem i connect Ipad2 with itunes it freezes the itunes!

I have tryed everything. It seams that the problem is in AppleMobileDeviceService.exe which control the connection between ipad2 and itunes.
I have tryed to desable firewall, antivirus, desable all startup programs, created new user account on windows, clean install and nothing works.

The main problem is connecting the ipad2 with win7 64bit machine becouse every other combination (win7-32bit works, win7-64bit+ipod, iphone) is working...

well tried using the sleep button over n over like previous poster mentions but no luck.

so far the only way that works for me is to connect and reconnect over and over until it catches, sometimes it takes 5 tries, sometimes 20. after 20 attempts i give up.

I've asked around, it seems anyone with win 7 64bit and an ipad 2 have this issue. I've yet to find someone who has not had this problem.

as usual Apple won't comment on this problem nor admit it.

I went into an apple store with a laptop, win 7 64bit, showed them the problem.
they tried for about 45min and simply could not make it work.
it did sync up twice! but they must had tried at least 100 attempts.
they tried different cables, different usb ports. plugging in laptop, unplugged.

the laptop was freshly formatted too so there was no excuse. plus i had latest itunes on desktop so they could install and reinstall it.

they could not give me a reason for the failure.
but they did offer to sell me a macbook, assuring me these problems only happen to windows users.

this is my second time at the apple store. I went to another, previous store told me it was windows problems on my computer, blah blah....

so i sit here waiting for apple to release a new itunes version or another firmware update.

if ya got more ideas or tips please let me know i'm willign to try anything, except buy a macbook.

I want to echo what ninja_pimp just wrote... I have tried every trick proposed on this thread (verify the USB connection in device manager, sleep/wake the ipad2, etc), but at the end of the day, it seems pure chance that at some point, the connection is established with iTunes.

Thanks n_p for going to the store with your laptop. I would have thought a Wintel laptop would have burst into flames when passing the gate of the Store, but it seems like not 🙂

I had the problem with 4.3 and nothing change with 4.3.1. Since I removed the Logitech webcam software and camera driver I have not had any further problems. Since no one has echoed my experience I assume that this is not the issue for all. But, if you are having issues and have a Logitech webcam installed, particularly one of the newer HD webcams, try removing either the software or driver or both. Worked for. YMMV as they say.

Try running Itunes as a administrator. That's the only way I could seam to get it to work. Right click on the icon and select run as a administrator. At least give it a try. I have the logitech hd webcam and I will have to remove it and see if that fixes running without admin.

I found a solution. Took advice from various people above and then went through this link
http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1538

I found that although my Windows 7 OS laptop could see the ipad2 itunes couldnt. The issue was I didnt have an "Apple Mobile Device USB Driver" under the USB menu in Device Manager

The key bit was under the "update the apple mobile device driver" specifically using the "usbaapl.inf" to install from disk. Bingo!! Its alive and visible in iTunes

itunes won't detect ipad 2
