itunes won't detect ipad 2

I've installed and re-installed the latest itunes 64bit on my win 7 machine. yet itunes will not detect it.
I've tried multiple usb cables. tried differnt usb ports yet to no avail.
every so often it will detect and let me sync but 99% of the time its an everyday battle to get my ipad to detect on itunes.

I have an iphone 4 that seems to detect fine. yet i can't figure out why ipad 2 wont detect. I've even restored my ipad 2.

I've tried everything I can think of.
I even formatted my computer, download itunes and install it on a fresh system and same problem.

I'm at my wits end. I can't understand why its so hard to detect it.

device manager sees it fine. but itunes locks up when i connect the ipad 2. if I disconnect it, itunes becomes available. Everytime I connect my ipad itunes throws a fit and becomes unusable for like 5 min, a very long pause as it thinks about something.

anyone have a workaround for this?

I went to the apple store and a tech there told me, buy a mac, that will sole your problem....seriously?
then he said or uninstall and reinstall. which I've done several times, that does not fix the problem.

well theres good news
i updated to firmware 4.3.1 and it now seems to sync albight slowly but i'm not having to connect and dsiconnect 20 times anymore.
I'll connect walk away from my PC because it takes about 5min for itunes to detect and connect to it.

its still not 100% but its alot better than before.
it still fails to sync sometimes.

note: device manager shows the usb mobile sync is present and always has.

I have two windows 7, 64 bit systems. my newest one, Toshiba not a month old, will not see the iPad 2 3G but did see none 3G without issue. I am glad to hear I am not alone here on this issue. I have spent much time on this. Hours on the phone and searching on my pc for somthing different on the pc's. It seems it is the usb driver is not starting for the iPad2 3G, I had a wifi only (SKU said it was a 3G, long story) it worked fine w/out issue, when I got the 3G...finally, it , to my horror, would not sync. But would on my netbook...what a headach.
So, homesharing....time...having to lug anouther PC with me. Im going to try this, it sounds like it may work

I suspect that a lot of the above "fixes" are nothing more than co-incidence. Today, after a week, my iPad 2 isn't detected by iTunes - for absolutely no reason - all the same software is running that it was at my last sync. So I connected my wife's iPad to my computer and it detects no problem at all - there is clearly something wrong with iTunes, and for Windows platforms only - my home PC still runs XP, and it appears that sync issue is intermittent and applies to all versions of Windows.

It would be great if Apple acknolwedged this issue and came out with a solution, given that there are far more iPad users on PC than Mac.

Same problem here on Mac Pro running windows 7 with brand new ipad 2.

Can't turn it on.

After a ton of google searches I find hundreds of people with same problem.

Absolutely unacceptable.

Words come to mind for apple that are unprintable. An anger level unacceptable.

Simply a bunch of money grubbing .............................................

Good thing I'm at home and not in an apple store where I could connect with a representative in a more physical fashion.

I agree with the comments that Apple should acknowledge the problem with iTunes. I had a most frustrating few weeks getting the sync to work. With the firewall installed I could sync my iPod with no problems at all. But the iPad would not sync. It is really not acceptable to have to remove the firewall to get the iPad syncing. It may be that the partial problem lies with zone alarm as well. All parties should be in discussion with each other to provide proper working solutions and so lessen the amount of detective work for their customers.

My iPad sync just started to work again - same settings on my PC; same software, same everything. This is clearly an intermittent error... I have say, reading some posts above, if this had happened to me on day one, trying to sync my brand spanking new iPad2 and it didn't work, I would have blown a major fuse (as people have) and I would have been down at the Apple store screaming bloody murder.

For now, however, fingers crossed, everything is working as it should.

i have the same problem.. the ipad 2 brand new connected to a black mac book is not detected by itunes. It makes the connection sound but will not even charge the ipad.

when the same cable is connected to the ipod touch 4G works like a charm

when you try put the ipad in DFU mode, itunes detects it as an iphone 4.

Just can't activate the ipad .....

I purchased two 32gb Verizon 3g iPad2's at Bust Buy (Best Buy) on the same day at the same time. I took them home and tried them both on three seperate computers in the following order: a) Vista 64bit b) XP SP3 c) Vista 32bit. NONE of them would sync either iPad2. I had the latest version of iTunes on the first two, and iTunes hadn't even been installed on the Vista 32bit machine and I tried a fresh install of iTunes assuming that would work. It didn't. I tried swapping the new sync cables between the two, plugging, unplugging, rebooting, disabling McAfee, etc., to no avail. I was HOT under the collar. Just on a whim I switched out the new sync cable for my old iPhone 4 sync cable and the first iPad2 sync'd flawlessly the very first time with that cable. Tried the 2nd iPad2, and presto it sync'd flawlessly the first time too!

Hope this helps someone.

On my Windows 7 64-bit system 99% of the time if I plug in my iPad 2 (doesn't matter if it USB Hub, USB Port on Motherboard, USB Port on add-on USB port card or USB 3.0 port via add-on card) iTunes comes up (latest version) but will not show my iPad 2. However, if I unplug my iPad 2 and then connect it with iTunes open or start iTunes before plugging my iPad 2 it is detected.

Well, in the last two days, iTunes fails to recognize show my iPad 2. It actually blocks iTunes from being given focus (brought to the foreground) until I disconnect the iPad. The iPad shows up in Windows Explorer and the iPad beeps and changes the battery indicator to Not Charging so both sides do detect the change.

I have a Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit laptop and tried it on a Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit netbook with the latest version of iTunes 10.3. The iPad 2 3G is running 4.3.3. My iPod Touch Gen 3 is running the same iOS. It will sync. The laptop does not have Windows 7 SP1 nor IE 9 but the Netbook does.

Based on the various discussions that are here and in other forums, I have shutdown the iPad 2, laptop, cleared temp folders, reinstalled iTunes, tried the netbook which was never connected to the iPad before. I have reset the iPad settings as well. I have ensured that the Apple drivers, etc are the latest versions. I have temporarily disabled the firewall, anti-virus as well.

Any more ideas? This is getting frustrating. I have not asked Apple Tech Support for help yet since I don't want the answer of buy a Mac.

Thanks in advance,

Marcel

I know this isn't going to help and I know this well get me chewed out by Apple owners. However, over the last few days trying to use iTunes to stream videos, music and photos to my two Apple TV units (current Models) using Home Share and given that about every 15 minutes iTunes locks up and requires and Control+Alt+Delete so shut it down and given that I just did a format and fresh reinstall of Windows 7 64-bit and given that I have 12GB of RAM and 8TB of hard drive space and a 8 core Intel processor with a ASUS motherboard and given that out of all of the software I use including Photoshop CS5, Dreamwweaver, InDesign, AutoCAD and many other very large and powerful programs and iTunes in the ONLY program that has brought my system to a stop I have say that Apple can't seem to create software worth a darn.

In fact I am beinging to think that either Mac users are fooling themselves thinking that Apple products are as good as they claim or Apple is purposly designing Windows software shody in the hopes that it will get people to convert or something similar. I have never seen a program that was so much trouble on Windows and this from someone that started with Windows 1.0 and DOS before and who's first computer was an Atari 400.

The fact is it is unstable and unreliable and I don't believe for one instant that it is because I am using Windows. Windows isn't perfect, but neither is Apple.

What is really iritating is that I love my iPad 2 and would by an iPad 3 however, if they can't get their act together and get iTunes so that it is reliable and stable the hardware becomes nearly as pointless and the software. They other problem is is that iTunes has been this problematic for ages it isn't nothing new and they either can't or won't fix it.
