itunes won't detect ipad 2

I've installed and re-installed the latest itunes 64bit on my win 7 machine. yet itunes will not detect it.
I've tried multiple usb cables. tried differnt usb ports yet to no avail.
every so often it will detect and let me sync but 99% of the time its an everyday battle to get my ipad to detect on itunes.

I have an iphone 4 that seems to detect fine. yet i can't figure out why ipad 2 wont detect. I've even restored my ipad 2.

I've tried everything I can think of.
I even formatted my computer, download itunes and install it on a fresh system and same problem.

I'm at my wits end. I can't understand why its so hard to detect it.

device manager sees it fine. but itunes locks up when i connect the ipad 2. if I disconnect it, itunes becomes available. Everytime I connect my ipad itunes throws a fit and becomes unusable for like 5 min, a very long pause as it thinks about something.

anyone have a workaround for this?

I went to the apple store and a tech there told me, buy a mac, that will sole your problem....seriously?
then he said or uninstall and reinstall. which I've done several times, that does not fix the problem.

Ok, I was having the same issues with both the iPhone but worse with the iPad. My fix was this: I unplugged all of my USB storage drives (3) and rebooted the PC without them & boom! Both iPhone & iPad sync faster than ever, almost immediately after being connected. I had tried most of the other fixes listed on this thread woithout any results...hope this helps!🙂

hello- I found this forum when I had the same problem as described, and it looks as though I've got it all working now. Got a brand new Ipad2 and was using the same netbook and Itunes I use for an Iphone 4 and Ipad 1.

What worked for me is to go into Device Manager, and find the Ipad under other devices. Click on it- if you see it, it will likely have a little question mark on it. I then clicked on update driver, clicked on search automatically for driver updates- update was found and installed- and then my Ipad2 was recognized by Itunes, and setup is proceeding thusly without issue.

I also changed the power management of the USB ports to not hibernate, but I don't think that had anything to do with what worked for me.

I have now managed to get the iPad to connect to my main pc as well as my netbook. What I did was to delete all the apple connectivity cable drivers and then to re install iTunes and the drivers from scratch. This seems to have done the trick. It appears that there were several versions of the drivers and software on my pc and it only wanted one fresh new set of programs to work from.

hi guys,

I have a laptop running opensuse 11.4. Of course there's no app for connecting my ipad to linux by now but i have Virtual Machine running Windows XP 32-bit. Same problem about connectivity.

Now it works. First time i connected the ipad the VM detected it as a Camera Device. So i did the following

1.- uninstall it from control panel under system menu.

2.- connected and disconnected the ipad 3 times and suddenly itunes recognized it.

Before this i updated itunes to the latest version

Have good luck guys!

I had the same issue on my work laptop XP Pro, here is how I fixed it.

1) go to device manager (right click on my computer and select manage)

2) select device manager

3) right click on imaging devices

4) select APPLE IPAD or APPLE IPHONE and then right click

5) update driver

6) select choose from a specific location (advanced)

7) tick the first option its called (search of the best driver in these locations)

8) make sure you tick this box (include this location in the search)

9) put this path C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers

10) press next then finish

hopefully this would sort out your problem, I looked everywhere for a fix and tried every single suggestion on apple support pages and none of them worked for me.

Thanks,

Ali

I was having a similar issue where itunes would not synch with my ipad. I tried all the Apple solutions to no avail. I read on some thread somewhere (maybe this one, they all run together at this point), to update the BIOS, and that worked like a charm. I am running a Gigabyte MB on the Intel P55 chipset. The Gigabyte @BIOS program did all the work. Hope this helps others out there. Good luck

I tried every single suggestion in this forum and read so many articles and still no luck. The issue is caused by a non compatible windows drivers that are being used by default. The only solution that works and fixes this problem is installing manually Mobile Device Support driver provided by Apple as Ali Alkadhi described in his post above. That method works for sure, thanks Ali!

This is the 1st time I have an Apple product and I have the same issue with iTunes and iPad2 32Gb.

I am going to wait for an upgrade for iTunes or for the iPad to solve this issue, but I am really surprised and dissapointed: Apple produces the same problems as Microsoft does.

This issue is very annoying and I am thinking about buying the iPad was not a good idea.
