itunes won't detect ipad 2

I've installed and re-installed the latest itunes 64bit on my win 7 machine. yet itunes will not detect it.
I've tried multiple usb cables. tried differnt usb ports yet to no avail.
every so often it will detect and let me sync but 99% of the time its an everyday battle to get my ipad to detect on itunes.

I have an iphone 4 that seems to detect fine. yet i can't figure out why ipad 2 wont detect. I've even restored my ipad 2.

I've tried everything I can think of.
I even formatted my computer, download itunes and install it on a fresh system and same problem.

I'm at my wits end. I can't understand why its so hard to detect it.

device manager sees it fine. but itunes locks up when i connect the ipad 2. if I disconnect it, itunes becomes available. Everytime I connect my ipad itunes throws a fit and becomes unusable for like 5 min, a very long pause as it thinks about something.

anyone have a workaround for this?

I went to the apple store and a tech there told me, buy a mac, that will sole your problem....seriously?
then he said or uninstall and reinstall. which I've done several times, that does not fix the problem.

Some posts have touched on wifi sync problems as well as wired. Ive had multiple connection problems with my PC, device connectivity, and Wifi. Here are the fixes I have learned to use

Laptop

PC running Windows 7 64-bit

Multiple Microsoft Mobile Mouse with USB receiver

iPad2

Netgear WNDR3400 dual band router

Type of user- Heavy streaming media in multiple rooms, multiple wireless devices, occasional large file downloads

For both problems you must follow steps A through C and then proceed to the problem specific steps.

  1. Spend countless hours searching for a solution.
  2. This includes but is not limited to: disabling/enabling, uninstalling/reinstalling, reseting and recovering.
  3. Come to the realization that you have dug a huge hole and the **** thing still doesnt work.

iPad no longer recognized by Wifi or USB cable

One day it works fine, the next day it doesn't, and then out of nowhere it starts working again. It's your IP address. Take a look at your Network Connection Status. Do you have billions of sent and received bytes? In addition to losing wifi sync, it seems that because there is a wireless relationship between the iPad and iTunes the USB connection is lost as well. Your ip address refreshes regularly on its own. For this reason the problem seems to resolve itself, only to return later.

On a PC, open a command prompt window (Start > All Programs >Accessories > Command Prompt ).

Type the command (commands in bold) then press <enter>

ipconfig /renew <enter>

exit <enter>

I created a batch command so I can do this with the push of a button from my desktop. Simple instructions to do this can be found here

USB connected device stops working/no longer recognized

  1. Disconnect USB cable/receiver.
  2. Turn computer off.
  3. Unplug power cable. If you are using a laptop, you must remove the battery as well.
  4. After waiting 3-5 minutes plug in and power up. Laptop users should replace battery, plug in, power up.
  5. Connect your USB device. It may re-recognize your device and update drivers or it may just start working.

Hi,

Don't know if this helps but I managed to make my Windows 7 laptop win 64bits to properly work with iTunes!

First a bit of background, when I first used my iPad 2 I didn't encounter any problem to connect it to my Hp laptop windows 7 64bits. Later my iPad still worked okay but I didn't manage to activate a friend's new iPad 2 but my "old" iPad2 was allways detected by iTunes!!!

Though I managed to connect this new iPad to one win xp laptop without issues.

Last week I had to reinstall OS in my win7 64 bits and then after iTunes installation when I connected the iPad 2 the computer detected the device but iTunes din't!

I searched everywhere and got an hint that prople started to have issues after installing windows 7 SP1, so as was I.

Solution: installed SP1 and connected iPad o iTunes with SUCCESS now!

Later I installed SP1 and now iPad 2 is still recognized by iTunes.

I hope this helps other people suffering with connection issues on windows 7 64 bits.

It's not exactly a solution but more a workaround.

In my case I discovered that there's something wrong between win 7 64 SP1 and iTunes.

Coming from a fresh installation of the OS on computer, followed by a SP1 installation by windows update, but before connecting the iPad 2 to the computer, made that iTunes couldn't "see" the device.

So, I uninstalled SP1 and connected the iPad to iTunes, this time succefully!

Then I re-installed SP1 and iTunes is still detecting and working normally with iPad 2

I know that it seems a bit weird.

This seems to happen only on win 7 64.

Brought home my new iPad 2 today and immediately began to experience usb connection problems! On my first laptop (Dell Win XP) never even got the normal usb "ding" from Windows indicating a new device connected and found.... After several attempts, shutdowns, reboots, etc... Moved on to my HP Netbook (ugh! but Win 7) and got the "ding" but immediately followed by message indicating unrecognized USB device, and no drivers installed... MANY reboots, restarts, different USB ports ect, thought I'd try a different usb cable (from my iPhone 4) knowing this WOULD NOT WORK EITHER.... Bam!...DING!... iPad was immediately recognized and installed/sync'd perfectly!... Amazing!... I had a bad cable right out of the box!... And of course, it was the last thing I tried before boxing it all up and returning! I know this won't help 98% of you, but wanted to share anyway...

I don't know if it would help me. My iPad charges fine with the cable I have, but maybe it can charge, but not carry data after awhile. I may order a new one. My problem is that it works everytime I uninstall everything, and then reinstall, so it probably isn't the cable. Mine connects, and then immediately disconnects. iPad shows up in device manager, everything points to it working, but iTunes can't find it. I think there is a flaw in the iTunes program code; a bug they haven't found, or know about, but haven't taken the time to fix. Sometimes I feel that Apple doesn't care about Windows users, but they should because I own an iPad and an iPod. Maybe there is a bug between iPad and iPod since my iPod is recognized everytime. I have all but given up on it. I just do everything throught the iPad instead of computer.

Well I got this problem too, it all started with me updating to 10.5 and my iPod touch would not sync in iTunes the touch has 4.3.5 version it worked fine before the update. So for Christmas Santa wife got me a iPad 2 with iOS 5 I go to sync it and iTunes cannot found it. I been reading and doing all the stuff to get it to work until now. I am using a windows vista 32bit. What I did was go to start menu and type services in the search then go to services found iPod mobile services stop service then start the iPod services was on automatic so I did not mess with that. I pluged the touch in windows founds it like it has in the pass then I open iTunes it founds the touch and starts syncing. I went back to the services window and found a service iPod services it was start but it was in the Manuel mode is this right or should this be on automatic. I will say Apple needs to fix this because it was not a problem with the old updates. I hope this helps .

I received a new ipad2 and had similar problem setting it up on a 32bit windows laptop. I eventually discovered that my computer date and time had reset to 2007 when I first setup the laptop and this was making it impossible to detect the device. I set the date and time to the current date and time and my ipad2 was detected and I successfully set it up.

I had same problem today after updating iTunes and trying to sync my iPad2. I am running Win7/64bit.

I haven't been through all the pages of posts to see whether this has been suggested but after I tried numerous install/reinstalls unsuccessfully I followed a lead buried in Apple Support. The answer seemed to lie in going into msconfig (start/search/click msconfig.exe) and checking the Apple Mobile Device box in the Services tab. After re-booting (with the iPad connected - don't know whether that is relevant) it all fired up again with iTunes detecting my iPad!

I may have unticked this unwittingly after trying to get the iCloud Control Panel for Windows to work, giving up and uninstalling. I'll give that another go another time.
