2011 Macbook Pro battery drainage

My new 2011 MacBook Pro 15 provides a battery life of just 3 hours which is way below the promised 7 hours. I talked to the technical support team [Case #: 209175232] to receive a response that it is reasonable as I am streaming online video. This is my first Mac and I am highly disappointed to see the difference in promised vs actual battery life. Have some one experienced such issues? I am wondering if I should return this for replacement.

When you look at whats offered to you in the PC market when it comes to laptops there isnt anything thats better quality then an Apple Laptop in my opinion. I don't see anything like Magsafe for power adapters in the PC market unless you do your own modification somehow? The aluminum design by Apple feels more solid and less cheap then anything offered in the PC laptop market and most PC laptops still don't offer an almuminated keyboard. I know people that have bought an Apple Macbook Pro just to use it for running Windows because they like the feel of a Macbook Pro laptop rather then a PC laptop, so try using Windows 7 on it! If your not used to using the Mac OS Its going to be difficult for you at first after years and years of only using Microsoft Windows and never being even remotely familiar with the Mac OS.

I know a lot of PC users get crazy about any changes in there OS and there are some Windoes XP die hards that try to refuse to switch from Windows XP to Windows 7 so its only abvious that a lot of PC users will not like using a Mac at first when they never used one before. It's all in what your used too and I have been using both Mac and Windows machines for over 17 years and they both have there advantages and disadvantages but with the PC & Microsoft Windows having more pain in the *** disadvantages then the Mac OS in my own personal experiences.

Another thing that ****** me off now after using my new Macbook Pro is how the battery is "BUILT IN!" I hate this now after trying to use this at work and having to travel a lot. I need to to be able to twitch out the batter after 4 or 5 hours and not plug it in to a outlet to charge. If the battery wasn't built in to this laptop I could buy 2 batteries and just swtith then out but "NO!" I dont have that choice with this new Apple Mabook Pro because its built right in and is supposed to last 7 hours but it only last 4 to 5 hours. I am at work for 10 hours a day and not always close to a power source so this ***** for me now!

And If all that wasn't bad enough even If I want to buy a new batter and change it myself there is 10 screws on the bottom case and then a bunch of odd screws that need a special screw driver on the inside to remove the battery. The only reason Apple would do this is to take even more advantage of there customers by making them come into the Apple store and pay $150 to have your battery replaced. Were talking about a $60 battery that I know where to buy from china directly that with shipping included costs $60 and the Apple store will charge you $149 plus tax!

Yes, I'm well aware that Apple doesn't manufacture batteries itself. There are plenty of companies in Asia who are delighted to manufacture counterfeit parts, put counterfeit Apple labels on them, sell them cheaply, and be impossible to find when one needs to file a claim against their worthless warranties, while their governments wink at them. I've been reading posts for close to ten years in these forums from people who bought "genuine Apple" batteries at half price on Ebay and from fly-by-night online vendors, only to find that their purchases couldn't be charged, didn't hold a charge, never gave accurate readouts of their condition (or in some cases, didn't give any readouts at all), couldn't be calibrated, went completely dead without any low-battery warning, or worked fine for a month or two and then became useless. If you want to gamble that what you're buying isn't this kind of junk, good luck to you.

I know that there is a risk to buying on Ebay and thats why I pay close attention to the feedback of the seller. The seller has 2387 feedback with 99.5 percent being positive. What that tells me is nobody has ever complained about the battery being **** or even a knockoff. I would think a lot of unhappy customers would leave negative feedback If the seller was selling knockoffs.

There are a lot ignorant Apple users that don't know anything about the parts Apple uses. These people assume that there new laptop is 100% Apple but they couldn't be more wrong. Almost all the parts used in Apple computers are made by Fujitsu, Hitachi, Intel, ATI, nVidia and others. So its not entirely unbelievable that somebody with an Ebay store (that sells for the most part only rechargeable laptop batteries) has the genuine battery that Apple uses in there laptops for sale at a good price. We can sit here and argue back and forth forever but what I am going to do is actually buy that battery and find out for myself if its good quality. I don't even care If its made by the exact company that Apple uses for there batteries as long as everything works the same its genuine enough for me. And thats all that matters! I will leave my honest experience with this battery here so you will all know If its bad or If its good.

I'm not contradicting you regarding the battery cells alone. However what I say is true, and the battery management electronics are many times just crap. Just bought a macbook battery two months ago for my old macbook 2,1 and this battery never manages to load fully and do not hold the charge like the original did. In most cases you get what you pay for even if I'm fully aware of the fact that there are exceptions. The last thing I heard about battery cells, was that there is around a handful manufacturers of laptop battery cells. I'm also fully aware of the fact that Apple put in whatever electronics that are cheap when they manufacture their products. I have had macs sins the mid 80'ies so I'm hardly a rookie on these matters. 😉

I just need to save money where ever possible. I don't want to buy junk but I also don't want to spend $149 for a new battery from Apple when I need one. I bought a generic battery for my 2008 Black Macbook for $50 and it was just like the orginal so I know it can be done. I have owned Mac since 1997 but my first laptop was the Black Macbook I bought in 2008, so I am new to the whole battery part of the computer. I have always bought non-Apple parts like RAM, hard drives, cables, mice and even keyboards. Apple charges a lot of money for things like cables, buying generic cables have never given me a problem so why throw my money away when its not necessary? I looked at the feedback for this seller and everybody who bought this battery said "Item as described, fast shipping!" or "Great item, fast shipping" I really don't think this guy is selling junk.
