iPad 2 not charging when connected to PC

I have an iPad 2 in which if I connect it to my PC it doesn't charge, but when I connect to my Mac it charges. It can sync and transfer files from my PC, detects the device on iTunes, but on my iPad it says not charging. What should I do?

PC, Windows 7

Most computers don't provide enough power via their USB ports to be able to charge the iPad (first or second version), though they may charge it slowly if the iPads screen is off. It's more reliable, and quicker, to use the wall charger.

I agree with you Yann... my iPad was charging just fine on my PC until an iPad update was applied. Now it won't charge on anything but the wall plug-in. Totally an OS problem that Apple introduced. It is simple... Occams Razor...The simplest explanation is usually the right one. Worked before...patch...stops working. Introduced OS problem. 'nuff said.

I use a HP laptop computer (Windows Vista) and a MacBook Pro with Bootcamp, using Windows 7 operating system. I charge my iPad with either computer when I'm on the road. Yes, I get the message "not charging" when I hook up the iPad to the PC's using the Windows operating system. You can ignore this. Hook your iPad up to a Windows computer, turn the iPad off. As long as the computer is not in a sleep mode, the battery gets charged. It might take three hours to charge a 50% drained battery. Once you turn the iPad on and disconnect the iPad from the computer, the message "not charging" disappears and your will see that the battery has been charged. Works for me all the time.

Look at my comments (marma0525). Even in Windows 7 mode I can charge my iPad via my MacBook Pro and a HP laptop computer.

Turn on your iPad, connect the unit to your MacBook Pro. Your will hear a short beep and than the iPad will tell you it is not charging. Ignore the message and turn your iPad off (briefly push the power button). Keep the iPad connected to your computer. A few hours later, disconnect your iPad and turn it back on, you should see a higher charge percentage or even a 100% charge. Make sure your computer doesn't go ina sleep mode while connected to the iPad. Give it a try, works for me all the time.

This really did help and it did work on a make other than Asus

I have an Acer Aspire and I have been trying to work out how to charge my iPad 2 whilst it is plugged into iTunes forever (My iPad had this thing where just plugging it into iTunes would cause the battery to die). The iPods and iPhones I had all did (I suppose they were newer models) but I honestly didn't think this was going to work after the amount of things I tried.

It really is as simple as installing it and then restarting your computer and then once it is all rebooted just plug your iPad in and WAYHEY it started to charge and connect to iTunes all at the same time.

Thank you
