Will an Ipad 2 wifi+3g purchased in the U.S work in India?

Hi people. I am new to this forum. I am planning to buy an iPad 2 in the U.S. My friend's coming down to India next month, so she will be bringing it along with her. I just want to know if it will work here. I don't want to unlock it, just because the original seal will go off. Please help me. I read somewhere that an AT&T model is factory unlocked. Is it true? So will that work anywhere in the world?

Macbook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.6), Iphone 4, Ipod classic 120gb

Ipad 2 or 1 : 3g : Will work in India, It's confirmed Ipad is not locked to Carrier.

1. India you require to get AT&T Ipad, even if it's activiated it will work anywhere in the world.

2. All you require to do is Find a mini SIM : BSNL is the official carrier in India, you can also cut a regular SIM to fit IPAD.

3. Once you insert the SIM, make sure you have the correct CARRIER APN setting's.

I had purchased the ipad2 in US and never activated ATT services, i brought the ipad to India and inserted Idea 3g sim, it didn't work though it picked up idea's cellular signal. Later i edited the APN settings, i.e. just write 'internet' against APN and leave username and password blank. It works like charm....
