Is it true? So will that work anywhere in the world?

So, a whole lot of posts and nothing conclusive from someone who has actually done it, either way. Just to be sure, I am planning to get an AT&T connection activated and then bring it over. Unless, someone has brought it over to India without doing it and has got it working on the 3G here.
Help, people!
So, did anyone finally take back the ipad2 3G version and use it directly with a carrier in India without activating AT&T in the us. Can some one who has done it confirm. Since, there are so many people asking the question, I presume many must have taken it back by now
Finally! I got my iPad 3G(AT&T) from the US. It was not activated there, but it came with the AT&T micro sim anyways. I got a BSNL 3G sim, activated and charged it, cut it down to the microsim size and the iPad automatically connected to CellOne network. No hitches! Have been using it since yesterday.
So, there is absolutely no need for the 3G to be activated anywhere before you bring it to India.
Hope this brings relief to all those who have been waiting for an update from a real user in India.
Hi DesiApple
Can you let me know which city you are in? Your answer could not have come at a better time as I plan to do exactly what you said and was struggling to figure out if activation was needed or not!
Let me know if we can touch base for me to understand better a couple of things from your experience.

The info posted by DesiApple was useful. I bought IPad2 with 3G. It was with AT&T connection. I did not activate the AT&T 3G connection. I used the wireless to register and use my IPad2 for browsing, downloading the applicaitons and uploading the songs/photos when I was in US.
When I came to Chennai by default it was showing Airtel connection with the AT&T microsim which got shipped along with the Ipad2. I replaced that SIM with the Airtel 3G sim card(I went to the Airtel showroom in Adyar-Chennai to have my regular SIM card cut into MicroSIM card size. Thy did it for free). I did not have to do any additional configuration. By default once I inserted the SIM and booted the IPad2, I was able to browse and view content from Youtube and carry out all regular activities using the IPad. So all who are looking to carry a Ipad2 from US can feel free to carry a model with 3G support with AT&T connection.
