Upgraded to 10.6.7 and wifi problem is back

Since upgrading to 10.6.7 my MacBook Pro is losing wifi connection every 10-20 minutes. The signal strength shows maximum bar and ifconfig shows assigned IP address. But I can't reach any machine including the router. I need to toggle on-off wifi and the network works again. It's very similar to the problem I had with 10.6.5 update. My wifi router is 2WIRE from AT&T U-verse.

It is VERY frustrating to have problem like this again and again. OS X used to be much more stable than it is now. You guys at Apple should stop watching AAPL ticker all day and get to the work.

I am having the same problem! I even went as far as replacing the airport card. Then I reinstalled the snow leopard disc that I have and it worked fine, with the old card(i swapped back out and returned new one). Then like a ditz, i did a software update. I can just do the same thing again but I am worried my imovie 11 may not work on the older snow leopard. This is such a pain in the butt. I have to back up my comp every time before I reinstall the OS. They really need to fix this....

Hello,
I never had any WiFi-Problems with my iMac. But after updatimg to 10.6.7 I can't work online. Obviously I get a connection to my Router (FritzBox) because IP address is shown. Everything seems to be oK, but I can't get connection to Internet via Safari, get email or connect to router. I checked the forum, but none of the hints could help. In my opinion it seems to be a software problem (driver) with the last update.

I bougth an expensive iMac and now I can't use it. And there is no possibility to fix this!! I hope someone of the Apple-support is reading this discussion and we'll get a fix soon.

Is anybody here with some helpful hints?

several days ago I upgraded to 10.6.7 aon my IMAC and have had intermentant problems since. I can do a google search with no problem then click on a selection and get the message NO INTERNET AVAILABLE. If I perform the same task seconds later everything works fine. I am experiencing the same problem with using the wireless printer. All other wireless network devices are working with no problem. iphone, itouch, ipad, dell laptop, toshiba laptop, wii, netflix.
My neighbor was experiencing the same issues and contacted Apple support yesterday. She was instructed to change her router from WEP Key to WPA. This might be a fix but i think Apple should have a better solution if this is upgrade related.

Just bought a new MBP i7, shipped with 10.6.6. Upgraded today and my wifi broke, as follows: I have two Airport Extremes at work that bridge ethernet connections and use WPA personal; wifi works with them (I believe) and with Airport Extreme at home, also using WPA Personal; however, on the main wifi network, using WPA Enterprise, even with five bars in the menu bar icon, I cannot connect to the internet. Neither power cycling the laptop nor turning off and on the airport restores the connection. This definitely started today, with the update.

I updated from 10.6.4 yesterday and I’m having the same problems. Airport shows full strength, but I’m unable to connect most of the time. Connectivity resumes after I disconnect and reconnect, but goes to a crawl within five minutes. Simple pages may load after a long delay, but complex pages time out. Mail can’t connect at all to retrieve new mail. I have a PC laptop, an iPad, and iPod that are connecting without a problem, so the only problem is the update to 10.6.7.

I’ve tried zapping the PRAM, deleting locations and creating new ones, manual IP addresses and nothing helps. Connectivity has been a problem since 10.6.4, but this has been with worst update. When I updated to 10.6.5, I failed to clone a back-up and had to completely reinstall Snow Leopard. This time I backed-up the entire drive with Carbon Copy Cloner before installing the 10.6.7 Combo update--thank goodness for that!

After a frustrating night to troubleshooting. I restored 10.6.4 from the back-up and I’m up and running again.

ok i am limited in knoledge when it comes to computers. this is what I have for info. My neighbor had the same problem and resolved it by changing her router security from WEP key to WPA enable. I did not want to impact the other 9 devices in my household so I waited for a better answer before I made the change. I noticed that my google search window looked different a few weeks back but did not think much of it. It had been changed to " Mywebsearch" All worked fine but then after the apple upgrade problems started. Today I downloaded Sophos Anti- Virus and things seem to be back to normal. So much for an Apple device being free from Virus issues.

I upgraded to 10.6.7 today and immediately my wifi went bonkers. Had each and every one of the issues stated in the first few emails of this thread. Brought my work day to a screeching halt, esp as I use iChat & Skype to communicate with my remote partners.

The tip to restart the Pram worked. Had to do it twice, but so far, the issues seem to have stopped.

Now, I am crossing my fingers I am not going to run into the Open Type Font issue I've begun to hear about related to this upgrade...

Thanks satcomer for the help!

That's like saying you sprayed squirrel repellant on your couch, and lo and behold, today you've got no squirrels on your couch! You did not have a virus. See my [Mac Virus guide|http://www.reedcorner.net/guides/macvirus> for information on the current state of Mac malware.

I've heard several complaints about MyWebSearch in the last few days. Evidently, they must have made their web browser toolbar compatible with Safari sometime recently. How it got on your machine, I don't know, but I find no legit indication that it is malware. Sophos lists it as a "controlled application." Evidently, in this case, that just means that it displays (displayed?) ads:

http://www.sophos.com/security/analyses/controlled-applications/mywebsearch.html

Certainly, though, it has been targeted as causing lots of problems, and thus may be the cause of the issue you were having. If Sophos removed it, based on your settings, then that's a good thing.

I am having the same issue as everyone else. I have the new 13' Macbook Pro i5. I did my software update and now my wireless refuses to work right. It is either really slow, won't load completely or is down all together. I am very frustrated, everyone else in my house that use PCs are having no issues and I can't keep restarting the router every time the connection decided to stop working.

I am not the brightest when it comes to technical stuff so I zapped the PRAM, but all the other thing I have no clue how to do. Could someone give me steps?

Thank you! Hopefully Apple sends a new update soon that fixes this mess.

I had this problem immediately after running the update on my iMac 2006, and within a few days on my MBP C2D. The solution I discovered was repairing the disk permissions with Disk Utility. It seems that the 10.6.7 update affects a lot of permissions for Airport related files. After repairing permissions the wireless networking has been flawless.
Hope this helps someone.
