Apple TV 2G "An error occurred loading this content. Try again Later"

"An error occurred loading this content. Try again Later"

I get this message when trying to stream/load some movies, not all. I could stream YOGI BEAR in HD for my kids no problem. I could stream Jacka *3 HD no prob. I can also watch trailers. But I try The Fighter and Hereafter, and get the message all the time. I am afraid to purchase anything else coz I dont know if it will work. I tried rebooting, restoring and software update, but nothing helps. Please help anyone???!!

Issue:

Before updating my second gen apple tv to the latest tvos I was getting this error every so often with some content and not others all directly from the apple store. this is perfectly annoying. So, I did a total reset / wipe and reinstall to the latest tvos. Now the problem happens 90% of the time instead of 20% and I am ******. So, don't update!

Tangent:

My mac pro won't play iTunes because my 30" APPLE monitor is what, too old? But somehow its ok for apple tv to play on my random good old epson projector.. BS.... still attempting to watch tv I make my third step down to my laptop that seamlessly streams the very same content over wifi with out any problems. Why can a laptop on the exact same network (via wifi) with all the same network and firewall settings seamlessly stream the same content? Can't you guys get this right? Siera was the worst OS since the early 90's. This would never have happened if Steve were still around.

My setup:

I have two separate cat6 gigibit networks running through cisco smart switches to small business class rv325 routers with two ISP modems in bridge mode (to eliminate double nat). The residential connection is 300/50 and speed tests confirm latency and bandwidth are up to par. The end to end all gige intranet has also been tested for bandwidth and latency and perform as expected. The ISP's modems are set in bridge mode eliminating double nat so the routers handle NAT, DHCP, Firewall, etc. (business side static IP's and residential side dynamic ip's). But before anyone gets any bright ideas please know I have also tried putting the apple tv in the DMZ and connecting it directly to the modems.

Responses and research:

I have read some really stupid stuff in my research of this issue. whole websites going on and on about ******** 'fixes' written by clueless people. responses in this thread that are insultingly dumb.

I do not recall one response by an apple employee. why is that?

Thoughts:

I fail to see how my network is in any way related to the problem

Four interesting findings that I would love inside into.

1. the error happens with some apple provided shows and not others. This points to apple server over utilization.

2. the TVOS update clearly increases the issue many times over.

3. my laptop has no issues connected via wifi to the same wired network using itunes to play the same tv shows.

4. Why has apple not come forth and given some options? I assume it is because there are major issues in their back end hosting service pointing to issue number 1 and or issues with the update firmware / software TVOS that are causing more issues that they do not want to talk about until they can fix it.

I've tried multiple rentals on ATV2, both movie and tv show. Same error recurrs: An error occurred loading this content. try again later.

I've watched part of the movie (The Tourist) now that I'm trying to watch the rest, the error has occurred. Just to test things out, I also rented a television episode. Same error. Please advise on how to remedy these errors.

Thanks.

Yes, I have the same error message, I have tried resets and the firewall changes and router reboots but I cannot get a rented movie from iTunes to play at all. My ADSL speed is not great approx 2Mbps but I can view YouTube and movie trailors. I don't appear to have been charged yet and I am hoping because it cannot even begin to play then hopefully I will not be charged. I can Airplay a bought movie from either my iPad or my Win XP PC so I know it can work. I guess next time I'll just rent on my iPad so long as you are allowed to Airplay a rented movie?

Its a HDMI handshake problem. I had this months ago and found a cure.

I did these things 1. Unplug the hdmi cables. First tv then apple tv 2. Unplug the TV power and the AppleTV power, let them sit 30-60 seconds, 3. Plug in hdmi cables while power is off 4. plug the tv power in first, then the ATV power. This worked for me! (I was told it's an HDCP Handshake error, and the handshake is forced to be done again by unplugging power, but make sure you unplug both devices and plug them in the order above).

I have the exact same problem. I posted earlier and got the exact wording of the error message wrong but it's the same as here "An error occurred loading this content..." It happens a lot with streaming Netflix for me and I am able to stream Netflix on my BluRay player and content which AppleTV can't load the BluRay can play the same content just fine. This is nuts, it's been going on for at least 6 months and Apple doesn't fix it.
