Time Machine keeps prompting for password after restore

Ever since I upgraded to the latest OS 10.6.7, whenever I try to restore a file, folder, Application either from my doc's or Library in Time Machine on a backup HD, I am constantly prompted for my password?

I've never encountered this before?
Anyone else have this? Any advice? This is a pain..
Thanks!

Same problem here, not sure when it started though. Both if I try to manually copy the file back or use the time machine interface. It first prompts that I may need to enter an administrator password then prompts for an admin password (as com.apple.desktopservices ). All accounts, both admin and non-admin have the same problem, and I checked that my user GID and UID are the same as the file to be restored on the time machine volume.

Thanks for any suggestions.

I have an appointment with a Apple Tech tomorrow and will post what he says.

I am wondering if the new upgrade put security passes for all backups..the question being..if one had to restore from Time Machine..would every single file require a password?

This is stupid..especially for single users with home computers who don't need this security.

Did you notice this is a recent thing? After upgrading from OS 10.6?

Thanks for looking into this for us, I appreciate it! I hope they figure it out.

I can't honestly say if it started with the latest update or not for me, but I agree it is very annoying.

I am still waiting for an Apple Tech to get back to me but I braved an Apple Store on a Sunday and spoke to someone in there.

They informed me "Yes, a new security was installed for our own good and this helps thieves from installing TM onto their computers". Wait...I think this idea is ridiculous! Not sure about you but I go into TM and restore all kinds of files all the time..this isn't just for a complete restore. Some of my game files get overwritten and I can restore them like new with TM. Every single restore requires a password now including multiple file folders and everything inside them as well!

I really hope there might be a patch/upgrade for this to give us the option but the Apple guy told me to not hold my breath.

Will post if anything new happens.
Ugh

Hi,

Well, it took a number of weeks to finally receive an answer.

I sent in a background of my system and TM to Apple.

It appears, that some TM users could not restore certain personal files to their HD.

In response, the latest update makes all users use their passwords for every single file, folder, jpg. music file, .doc and app's for every single TM restore!!!!

It almost appears you are no longer the owner of your own personal files. I was reminded that TM is not a backup but rather an archive to restore in full but surely people like myself like to retrieve files that were thrown away or pictures, apps that were written over or adjusted?

So, everyone will have to fill out their password when restoring anything from TM from now unless Apple makes changes which I hope they will but doubt highly.

Hope this helps?
