Using usb wav files to itunes library mp3?

Ugh, 2 hrs. later I can finally ask a question,
Ok quick reference - Using a USB(16gb) with wav files I would like to add to my library and convert to mp3 (like importing a CD). I already have my preferences set to MP3 (192), like importing a CD it can automatically convert to mp3. Now using a USB mem. I would like to know how to do the same without having to go through each album to convert to MP3.
I know I cannot be alone on this, I have hundreds of albums to go through and editing and deleting each album will take months. Can't this **** program do an auto-convert like ripping a CD?
I hope my question is clear enough to understand.

I have done a general search through google, and now this new account with itunes. It does seem to get close to what I'm looking for, but trails off into the sunset after full review. I see plenty of y'all readin' this, maybe a quick link or suggestion may suffice?

Since your iTunes importing prefs are already set to MP3, do this...
In iTunes, hold Shift and go to menu Advanced > Convert selection to MP3 then select the top level folder where your music is.
iTunes will convert to MP3 and add the files at the same time.

Note that WAV files do not have tags so you will need to edit the info after importing.

Although I still need to jump through a few more firey rings, this is still 1 less action to be taken. I just wish itunes could recognize my USB as a CD, now that would be a Magic Trick to end all.

If your .wav files are sensibly set out in artist & album folders then my script TagFromFilename may save you some work.

Yep windows scripts. Turn off *Copy to iTunes Media folder...* (Edit > Preferences > Advanced). Import .wavs from outside the iTunes media folder so they retain their path information. Run the script to add data from path. Convert to mp3, resulting files will include tag data.

Heres what I have, is this correct?
EDIT> PREFERENCES> ADVANCED - nothing is selected in the check boxes.
Sorry dude I suck at this, first time. 😟
I do have the setting set accordingly, now I dragged the file from USB, that failed.
How can I (noob) import from outside the itunes media, as you suggest? I may need some crayons and a black and white outline book.

File> Library> wrong.
File> Add file> added without info, convert mp3 no info - fail
File> Add folder> added without info, convert mp3 without info - fail
Computer> USB> Jimi Hendrix> Hey Joe> right click> open with> itunes> no info, fail
Computer> USB> Jimi Hendrix> right click> usual windows options: wmp,send to zip, etc. nothing useful?

where else can I import the wav. files from? what is run the script? will this prompt me once I have the right path? will this be the end to the riddle? is Robin a tranny?

well so far, what music I already have the info was reversed on all tracks. Album is now Artist and or Genre "ClusterFu*k" of info all out of order. Album art is whatever Hal wants it to be, and the all new 'import' feature ... drum roll please.

Oh well I'm early enough into the redo my itunes 5 times a year, that I can... YES!! START OVER AGAIN!! 🙂 weeeee!.....

Well a few things in life are certain: taxes, death, and letting a 4 year old run around Walmart alone.
I'm just glad I have all my music backed up on windows wav. lossless (not wmpll).
iTunes is like a 4 year old in Walmart, you just can't trust it. I'll stick with it being a pain in the arse, and keep it on a short leash. I learned my lesson the first time itunes went HAL on me, ...never again.

Not quite sure how you're getting on, but it sounds as if the data you need for the files is in the path, but in a different order from that which my script expects. You could edit the script so it does a better job on the first pass, or once converted to mp3, use one of the many tagging programs found on the web to swap fields about.

My script is expecting this format:

...\<Album Artist>\<Album>\\[\[<Disk#> ]<Track##> ]<Name>\[ - <Artist>].<ext>

If your .wav files are set out differently, but consistently, then it should be easy enough to tweak my script. You could have a go yourself or post back with your format and I'll cook one up for you.
