"The factory profile for this display cannot be found."
Tonight I logged into my PowerBook G4, and as my login was in process, the colors on the display went dull and the white balance appeared to go out of wack. When I went in to re-calibrate the display I got the error "The factory profile for this display cannot be found." and then it wouldn't allow me to calibrate the display. Switching to other existing color profiles doesn't seem to help anything.
How can I fix this? Is there any way to get the factory profile for the display without reloading the OS?
17" PowerBook G4, PowerMac G5, Xserve,
Mac OS X (10.4.3)
I've just had a similar problem with my 17" G4 iMac... one minute it was working fine, the next - the error and no ability to change the profile. I've tried making a brand new one (with SuperCal), but I can't select it!
I've had a search on the forums and I did find a few posts about it - and even one with the exact same problem (iMac, not PowerBook). As I thought may be the case, the easiest fix is for someone to send you a matching factory profile from their Mac. I think the location is:
Library/ColorSync/Profiles/Displays
So... if there's a couple of Good Samaritans out there - one with a PBG4 and one with a 17" iMac G4 - please get in touch!
If you have "Enable fast user switching" turned on, then turn it off and see if it helps.
I had some strange problems with my external LCD display that corrected by turning off fast user switching.
Thanks for that. I tried it, but still no profile.
I'm gonna try leaving my computer on over night. I Sleep my Mac whenever I'm finished with it, and sometimes my logs get a tad congested. It's a long shot, but it has sorted out some odd glitches in the past. Failing that, maybe Onyx.
I'm going to try using Pacifist on my original iMac install CD: hopefully the factory profile is buried in one of the packages. I've tried it on my Tiger DVD, but I can't find anything of use there.
I left it on overnight - but no luck. I had another search in the discussions and read somewhere that someone had simply restarted and got their factory profile back. So, I tried that and voila! There it is. I've now recalibrated and got rid of that nasty Windows look!
I'm still using fast User switching and no problems so far.
Hope you all get your profile back without too much hassle.
