How so select text from cursor till the end of document?

What is the shortest/simplest key sequence to select all text from the cursor till the end of the document?

Why do I need this? I am using Apple's (very cool!) speech capabilities to read a long Word document out loud to me - to help me proofread.

I struggled with this one for quite a while. Simple solution for MS Word users- Press Shift from the beginning of the text and while keeping it pressed, scroll down to the end of the document and click till where you want to get the selection.

1) Click and release to place the cursor at the start point.
2) Scroll to end, hold down the Shift key and click where you want to stop.

Thanks. For speed, I'd like to be able to select text from "here" to some point far down in the document (or to the end) without having to actually move the cursor all the way there.

To select an ending position that is not at the end, You are going to have to navigate there somehow. To select from the current insertion point to the end, keystroke *shift-command-down arrow*.

I read this message and was very excited - what you've described is exactly what I want: to select from the current cursor to the end of the document.

But at least in Word, Shift-Command-DownArrow only increases the selected area by one paragraph at a time.

Clicking around, I discovered that Command-A (selecting all) followed by Shift-Click selects all Word text ABOVE the current cursor.

So close.

Shift-Command-DownArrow selects to the end in TextEdit - Word apparently implements it differently.

In Word, try Shift-Command-DownArrow again, but this time keep all the keys pressed down. The keyboard auto-repeat should quickly extend the selection toward the end.

Thanks. I'll probably do that for now, though my ideal solution would leave me looking at the starting point (to read along with the "speaker") rather than the end of the selected text.

All of my text editors respond to the shift-command-arrow key shortcut. If Word doesn't want to go along, try various modifier key combinations with the arrow keys (e.g. shift-option-arrow does the same thing in BBedit) - In Mac OS, the arrow keys extend the type of selection, with the modifier keys changing the scope (i.e. character, word, paragraph, document).

I have Word 2004, and after some Googling I just tried Shift-Command-END, which worked. You were again left at the end of the document, however.

My standard keyboard has such an END key, but I gather that your MBP does not have one. There is a post [here|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1613051] that reports that on a MBP keyboard, END is fn-RightArrow.

So for Word, you could try Shift-Command-fn-RightArrow.

Thanks. And the last detail is that the left arrow returns me to my starting point.

Including kicking off the voice, it's a seven key combination. Takes me back to my old days of typing lengthy vi command sequences by feel.

In Xcode, it is Shift–Command–Down.

Navigation with keys is generally a pain in Mac OS – every now and there different rules apply of how to get to the start or end of a line or a document. Regarding this, free desktop environments (XFCE, Gnome, KDE, etc.) as well as Windows are much more unified: it simply is always the home/end button.

Press the following:

Shift + fn + command + right arrow button.

This will select ALL text AFTER the position of the cursor.

Please note : this is on a Macbook Pro
