TiVo connects to home network but cannot get to Internet

Both of my TiVo premier units quit connecting to the Internet. The problem started when my ISP lost service and restored my service. All other Devices work fine on home network. Both Tivos show they connect to the home network but they cannot get to the Internet to obtain updated program info.

One TiVo uses wireless and the other is Ethernet connected.

Why can' they get to the Internet?

TiVo has run out of ideas and they don't believe the problem is theirs. Since all other devices work (iPad, Mac, Windows PC, iPhones, printer, even a Sony Dash, I suspect TiVo is right,

I use a Time Capsule for my home network.

Brian,

On the Tivo that is connected using ethernet...can you temporarily disconnect the ethernet cable that is plugged into the Tivo unit and instead plug it in to a laptop or computer? Restart the computer and turn off wireless on the computer and see if you can connect to the internet when you open your browser.

What happens?

Thanks for that suggestion. I did connect to the Internet using the Tivo's ethernet cable on a netbook. That gave me the idea to connect the Tivo's ethernet cable directly to my cable modem from the Tivo. Same problem - Tivo won't connect to the Tivo site to retrieve a program guide update even when it is not being routed through my Time Capsule home network.

So, at least I now know it is not my Time Capsule causing the problem. Again, thanks for the suggestion that helped me understand where to focus the debugging issue.

As you have probably deduced, this "test" provides two important facts:

1) You have a good internet connection all the way to Tivo
2) Your network and the ethernet cable is working

So, the Tivo support folks' contention that the problem is not theirs, but elsewhere on your network doesn't hold much water. Hopefully, the new information that you have (and a better support person at Tivo) will get things going for you.

My guess is that you may have to "factory reset" the Tivo device(s) and then set them up again from scratch, just as you did when were new. Perhaps there is an online Tivo support forum that could help with this as well.
