Hi. I want to use my iPad as an input device for my iMac. Especially Garageband and some different synth software I have. I have tried to use the line input, via minijack cable, but that doesn`t seem to do the trick. Anybody having suggestions?
Could you elaborate more on what it is you wish to accomplish? I'm not clear on what sort of "input device" you want the iPad to be.
If you're just trying to capture the sound from the iPad, using a stereo minijack cable to connect the iPad's headphone jack to the iMac's audio input, then using appropriate recording software to capture the audio, should work, though I haven't tried that myself. If that's what you're trying, please describe more fully your setup and where things seem to be breaking down.
What I´m trying to do is to capture sound in Audacity, and afterwards edit it with other soundsamples I have om the iMac. I´ve tried that way with the iPhone as well, but it will not go into any program on the mac. I wonder that I might need a soundcard of sorts?
It works for me on my iPad with my iMac. Are you sure you have "line in" selected in the Input pane of the Sound system preference on the Mac (if you want confirm input from the iPad), and the volume up on your iPad, and that you have "Built in input" selected in the Recording section of the Audio I/O pane in the Audacity preferences? Note that you won't see any level activity in Audacity until you click the "record" button, unless there's a setting in Audacity I haven't found. You also have to set up playthrough in the same preference pane, and again it won't play through unless Audacity is recording (though you can pause the recording).
Thank you very much. This solved the problem. I still cant get sound from the speakers on the mac, but I can now record the sound in Audacity, and listen in on the built in speaker on the Ipad.
