Problem with the microphone on iPad2

I also had this problem. good work around ... apple earbuds with built in mic. sounds are coming thru to ipad crystal clear. apple fix this. this is a design flaw. the reason we buy apple products is good design. we pay a premium for apple and we expect this to be fixed. anyone have this issue with ipad4 ipad gen 4?

Just tried vacuuming and now it works.Saved $250.00 and can now do FaceTime Woo Hoo!

You can add me to the list of iPad 2 users with the mic issue. Frustrating part is you never know how long the vacuum or compressed air fix will last. Sometimes a few days, sometimes a month. It's a bit embarassing when making a facetime call with mic out and "oh wait a minute, I have to blow out my iPad"!

Like many others, I charge my iPad in an upright stand. Was thinking of laying a cloth over the hole to see if that would prevent the buildup that clogs the mic. Anyone else tried that?

Me too! Everyone needs to find this information out! It is not obvious, because my mic hole did not look like it had anything blocking it, but sure enough after scraping it with a pin and blowing it out with a can of air, it works like a charm! Thanks all.

Definitely my hero! less than 15 seconds of electrolux vacuum with my fingers between vacuum and iPad 2 microphone hole and now my non-functioning all static recording status is gone and the microphone works like new!! Thank you for posting! (Who would have ever thought that dust could get in there? Certainly not visible! Apparently dust somehow can 'channel' its way into iPad innards. Thank you!
