Hello,

I have an iPad2 WiFi 32GB, the problem is that the microphone does not work, when I tried to talk trough skype or try to play my voice recorded by any other application I only obtain a sound like a static. Do you know how to fix this issue?

iPad2, iOS 4

I have the same problem with my iPad2 64Gig WiFi.
With Skype, Facetime or Videorecorindings the sound is terrible cracking like static.

I thought this was just a problem with the 3g units (Apple has 3 different microphone assemblies WiFi only, VZ and AT&T).

My iPad 2 VZ 64GB microphone zapped after 18 days (first heavy static, then it just would record at a 95-99% audio reduction). Geniuses 1st tried doing a low level firmware wipe - but that did not fix the hardware problem.

Apple Genius Bar will replace with new one in 3-5 days (although the people waiting daily will get theirs earlier, the "new" service models have to come from Apple Engineering in a "white box."). Ugh.

Today I found that I have the same problem and I only have the 16GB. I tried recording and I get a heavy staic... I helled at the top of my lungs and on the recording I heard my self but very faint. Unfortunately I don't have an Apple Store near by so I guess I'll have to ship mine. Great just in time for finals.

iPad 2 wi-fi + 3g --- I have the same problem too. Today was trying to record video, but after I can only hear bad noise. Reset didn't help. Can't say when the problem appears, but I have updated iOS to 4.3.3 last week.

To all iPad2 64Gig WiFi owners.  My IPad2 was working fine for a couple of months then as most  described, I was getting like white noise, o no sound at all using Skype/FaceTime/Recording videos.

I checked online and went through the claim made by iLounge to its iPad 2 review on how the same microphone is placed in the two different models.

I found for my iPad2 64Gig WiFi (no 3G), the microphone was placed above the front camera (that tiny hole that I inspected when I got my iPad2 the first day and forgot to inspect later).

Well, I blew that whole with a Compressed Gas Duster (Dynex, part numer DX-CNDAIR1) and tested recording one more time.... Problem Solved!

I had opened online (earlier to my discovery) a support ticket with Apple, they will mail a box so I can send them my iPad for repair/replacement.  I'll wait a few weeks before I release my iPad2 to them, as I have a custom engrave and don't like the idea to wait for 2-4 weeks to get the replacement back.  I'll keep you posted!

For no apparent reason, could t get my voice over Skype, but hear son s voice.

Tried dragon dictation and got dialogue about fuzzy distorted sound and no xscribe.

Tried Skype voice/mic test and nothing.

Blew out the iPad mic hole with Dust Off compressed gas and the mic is now fine.

Thank you. I just tried it with blown air not compressed air and already I can hear my recordings much clearer.

I will also monitor the problem of dust and see if this resolves over time. Trading my iPad2 a second time is not an option!  Bad enough I had to get it traded for a dead pixel the first time.

    Thanks for the solution.

I had a similar problem, the mic didn't work.  After 3 calls to 1800MyApple I had to bring it in to get a replacement.  Unfortunately I had to wait in the overcrowded store for an hour to get it, but after 1 day it does still work. Also, I received a brown box iPad, meaning it could have been a return or furbish.  The whole experience dented my opinion of Apple in the sense it appears they are too overwhelmed by their own popularity. An amazing problem to have.

I thought blowing sir was working, but eventually had to replace it.  The home button and/or software associated with was also failing.  This was a big disappointment.  Blowing out with air was not a final solution.  The call to apple proved to neither be smooth nor sufficient to get a solution.  They wanted me to drive two hrs to Frankfurt and somehow find the apple store.  I work foa living.  Costs money to do their narrow minded solution.  Gas alone would have bee fifty dollars.  Loss of work time would have been another three hundred dollars.  I do not think apple has the customer in mind.  A sad scenario.  Rms

Microphone failed on my 3G 64GB iPad2. Could not do FaceTime anymore. Spent 30 minutes at the Genius Bar today and walked away with a replacement. Fabulous customer service at the Pasadena store. Currently restoring without a computer thanks to ios 5 and iCloud.

Yeah!!! Dick Stewart.  I feared the worst that I would have to send my iPad2 in.  It was working fine and right in the middle of a video, the sound went out. The all I could get was loud crackling.  I just happened to have a can of air and did you what did and blew the mic hole.  IT WORKED!!!!!
