iPad 2 home button fail

The home button on my iPad 2 is very unresponsive many times.

Sometimes I have to press it 10+ times to get it to respond.

Is this definitely a hardware problem or could it be software related - It happens in any app.

So i've had the same issue with my iPad 2 for a while - a totally unresponsive Home button.

I tried the 'blowing' trick....didn't work 😟

After a bit of searching I finally found a solution that actually worked!

So apparently, from time to time, the Home button may need to be recalibrated. The following steps recalibrate the Home button to get things working again.

  1. Launch one of the "stock apps” (such as Weather or Calendar),
  2. Hold down the top power button until the “slide to power off” prompt appears,
  3. Release the top power button, and then quickly press and hold the Home button down until both the power-off prompt and app disappear (this took about 10-15 seconds)
  4. Violla! The Home button should now work!

I know this sounds too easy to be true - I didn't believe it at first, but I gave it a go, and unbelieveably it worked! Good luck guys 🙂

I tried all the solutions here which gave only temporary bettering. Now I found something which really helped (on my iPad 2 64GB iOS 6.13): Overwrite your free space! I have mostly about 15% free and a lot of apps, almost 200, and there is some coming and going. When I filled up the free space with big (1GB+) videos till I had only ca. 100-200 MB left and than erased the videos until I had my 10% free again, the problems vanished and my home button worked like a charm. Perhaps this will help you if everything else failed...
