I think you're talking about something that's totally subjective now, to be honest - from experience, the Focusrite stuff is actually very good and I find it difficult to believe that it makes that much difference to the fruits of your labour to use a different audio/MDI interface thingy.

Of course, Apogee have always tried to make their products work well with Macs and that's a great thing. Different ballpark - mm, not that different, is it?

Would be difficult for me to think about purchasing a Duet when something like the "Focusrite Saffire Pro 40" is available for the same price as the original Duet. Comes with 8 mic preamps + ADAT I/O (16 inputs) + s/pdif.

Duet II is sound wise in a different ballpark, believe it or not...:o)

I do believe you...

But the advantage of 16 total inputs, 8 Focusrite and 8 of my own choosing would be far more important to me for live recording..

Besides, we both know that it's the music (input) that counts.
Great sounding crappola is still crappola.

That said, nice to see Apogee upping the ante.

And by the end of the year, Thunderbolt will make FW and USB obsolete. Looking forward to speaking with Apogee at NAB next week. My Duet has been on the road with me all over the country, holds up, durable, top shelf D/A converters and filters, it's a work horse, never a problem. I could drive my BMW around, but why, when a VW will do the same thing? Cause that BMW holds up better, is more comfortable, and performs better...

Thunderbolt, wait for it...

This discussion began in March because Apogee made an announcement about the 'soon to be released' Duet 2. It's now two months later and no one expects to have this item in stock until late June, at the earliest. That's really frustrating. I've delayed starting some new projects based on Apogee's email to me that the new Duet would be available in April. The estimated 'in stock' date keeps moving, so that it never arrives. I want my Duet 2 already - and I want it now!
