Are decals bad for macbook?

My bf claims that if you use a decal -a full decal on the back on the screen- that some how it will cause damage to my screen...I have used decals on my iphone, on my old laptop and it was fine...Has anyone heard this before? I tried to look it up and didn't see anything..
