Google maps: no maps will show in safari, firefox, opera, icab...

Hello to all,

I recently loaded the 10.6.7 OSX update and now have problems with google maps. On maps.google.com, no map is shown (but all control elements are present). After a while (message "loading" at the top appears for about 1 minute) the message "no image available" shows in the image cells of the map. This problem appears in all browsers I actually have installed (safari, firefox, opera, icab). Same for all embedded maps on other sites.

What I already checked:

- delete all google cookies in safari
- restart my mac
- check for software updates

I'd try to figure out if the problem is with your user account or your operating system.

You could create a new temporary Admin user account and log into it. Does the problem continue to happen in the new account also?

I also have this problem. I am running 10.5.8 and since I did a SWUpd yesterday I also cannot access Google Maps. My symptoms are exactly the same as the OP's.

The SWUpd contained various updates - I updated (amongst others), the Apple Security Update and also the new JavaScript update. I strongly suspect it's to do with the Java update. I notice when I'm trying to load Google Maps in the status bar, it says something like "Run script void(0) or something similar.

This happens in Firefox 3.6, Firefox 4, Google Chrome and Safari 5.0.4

I have tried using another user account and it makes no difference. Apple bust my maps.

I know this isn't a fix, but the best I can suggest for anyone else having problems accessing Google maps is to try a different mapping site until someone either fixed Google or the Apple java release (whichever is to blame).

I tried searching for other mapping sites: this one from the Automobile Association (UK) seems to work, even though it's just a front end to Google maps. Go figure!
