I'm having the same message appear on my computer. I've installed and reinstalled iTunes many times with no luck. I also have norton firewall / anti-virus. Tried reinstalling the software with norton off with no luck. I even called Apple still no luck. Quicktime isn't running either. I click it and get an error message.

Any help would be GREAT

Windows XP Norton Firewall / Norton Anti-Virus

hi Kevin!

Itunes has encountered a problem and needs to close, sorry for the enconvinience

if your QT is also giving you an error message when you try to launch it, let's try the following technique:

iTunes 6 for Windows unexpectedly quits when opened

(it's a good idea to switch off antivirus and antispyware prior to the uninstalls and repair installs, too.)

keep us posted.

and when i try opening quicktime it tells me that there is an "error 63411 make sure quicktime is installed in your computer"

... that's not my favorite message to see amongst the known complications of this particular problem.

let's check up on a couple of things. can you see Quicktime listed in your Add/Remove programs control panel?

if so, what error message do you get when you try to uninstall it from there? include error message numbers.

I am currently having some of the same problems. Sometimes when I click on Itunes it won't open at all and there is no message telling me it has encountered a problem or error, it just sits there, this goes for quick time also. I tried to go to the apple site and just downloading Itunes again, but it doesn't help at all. I usually have to completely uninstall the program and go to the apple site and download itunes again. I've had to do this four times over the last two weeks and I have a feeling it has to do with the Itunes program and not my computer. All my music and photos are there when I open it up again. Just make sure you have saved all your music to something if you try uninstalling.

for that complication of a broken quicktime, the following treatment usually works.

download and install the Windows Installer Cleanup utility:

Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility

use it to remove existing Quicktime installation registry entries. then use the QT component of the uninstall instructions given in the following document as a guide to a manual uninstall of the existing QT program files and folders:

Troubleshooting iTunes, iPod Software, and QuickTime installation on Windows

reboot the PC. then let's try another standalone QT 7.0.3 install. we'll take some additional precautions this time.

download and save the QT 7.0.3 installer to your hard drive. (we'll run the install from there rather than on-line.) switch off any antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install.

reboot and try to launch itunes again.

keep us posted.

Now i feel stupid b/c i just posted the exact same message. Sorry guys :(

🙂 you shouldn't feel stupid lilshortee. you did the right thing by posting your own thread and explicitly describing your symptoms to us. there are enough subtle variations and different complications with the problems that people get that it's a good idea to keep one person/problem to a thread.

you're in good hands with Katrina over there. merry christmas!
