Masking a shape

Is there really no way to mask a shape in Keynote? I know you can mask images, but you seemingly can't mask a shape. I know there are workarounds (import image, editing points, etc.), but am I missing something? Is there a secret way of masking a shape.

This stems from my desire to create a half circle by inserting the a circle shape, and masking out the bottom half to create a half circle.

No you can not mask a shape. There are two easy options that come to mind. First if you are using a solid color background +(such as the white or black theme)+, create a block and make the same color as the background and cover half the circle.

In my opinion, the better option is to copy your shape, open Preview, File>New From Clipboard +(or command n)+, copy then paste into Keynote. Now you can mask to your hearts content.
