3G and print impossible?

3G and wi-fi are mutually excluding, so AirPrint is not possible egen using 3G ?I understand concerns about power but it could enable them both while printing.

At worst case, you will have a copier which I find is worth it.

To be honest, I do not understand what a SSID is.

SSID is the name you assigned to your printer. More technically, it is the name you assign to the adhock network you hp printer will create.

And don't I still need the air print app?

I think this app comes with your iPad. You need to be running the lastest iPad software.

You may want to buy directly from HP. Sometimes, if you get an older but new printer, you have to update the firmware. You may get the lastest firmwire if the printer is of recent manufacture.

I you have have a problem, you may need to take everything to an applestore & get all configured.

Hi

Any luck with all of this?

My elderly mother has a 3G iPad and has been doing great with it! Now the time has come where she would like to print, but like you no internet / WiFi in the house.

Hopefully iOS 5 makes this a little easier, but has anyone been able to confirm if you can print directly to any (HP) printer directly without an access point?

Cheers

I am looking into this same question for my aunt. She, too, has been catching on to using her iPad. Her problem has been the inability to print. She has 3G and WiFI on the iPad 2, but no WiFi at home. She has taken the iPad into Apple and other stores and tried to buy any printer they can get to work with 3G. No success anywhere. We need to find a simple way that she can print at home without WiFi. Anyone on this thread have suggestions?

You would still have the problem that to print to the printer you would need to change the iPad to the WiFi network the printer is on. That WiFi network won't have any internet connection, so after printing is complete you would need to turn the WiFi connection off so the iPad uses 3G.

That's fine if the person is confident in doing that, but I know my mother wouldn't have been.

I think iOS 7 may help with this issue, as if the WiFi network doesn't have internet it will still use 3G for data whilst on the WiFi network. So try it all again in Mid September!

I think you could train someone to do this. With my parents some tech things are difficult until they see a benefit from it. They found setting up a voice answering machine to difficult until they began getting calls at 2:00 am.

You can buy another device, MiFi, which will connect your wifi devices to a cellular phone network. I'm sure there are other devices around with the same capability.

Contact the celular service you want to use. Ask about there MiFI devices. Check on prices.

here is the wiki article on the device.
