Mail 4.5 corrupts PDF attachments from gmail (while outlook 2011 doesnt)

I still have the same problem of corrupted Imap PDF's. All my colleagues at the office too. The problem clearly appeared when we swicthed our mail server from Communigate to Google Apps and appears only when connecting in IMAP.

Its really hard to say if the problem is more on Apple or Google's side since Apple mail made no problem with another server and that Google's Imap works fine with other clients.

A few months ago I opened a ticket on my Google Apps account and after asking me to send them headers of mails with that problems plus tons of other general tech support questions they returned to me and said that if the problem was only with Apple's Mail it was "proof" it was not a Google problem... great...

I confirm that thunderbird for mac 8.0 that i just installed and configured for IMAP does not make problems with these pdf attachments that I can't open in IMAP in Apple's Mail.app.

I would prefer to keep using Apple Mail but in the meantime i will use both at least on my notebook so i can have a local copy of my pdf attachments that I am sure i can open when on the go without an internet connection.

+1 for me, but not with Gmail. I am using a local server at the office, with IMAP-settings in Apple Mail. It is not only PDF attachments that get corrupted, but also Microsoft Office, and sometimes even pictures. I think I am on 20% of all attachments getting corrupted. Outlook and webmail work fine.

I forgot to add: occassionally when I save the attachments i am able to remove a space that was somehow added to the file extension and open the file (so eg. .docx_ instead of .docx), but that's only when I'm lucky.

Actually same for me. Not only PDF attachments get corrupted but also others like JPG, DOC, etc...

I guess it might have to do with the size of the mailbox. My inbox as well as countless folders have a total size of more than 2.5 GByte.

I do not rember that I had any issues when the mailbox on the server was still small...

Same here, but the issue was happening on Lion with Mail app version 5.1. Specifically in my case, it turned out to be something going wrong with the GPGMail plugin, version 2.0a4. I just disabled the configuration item, Readings -> "Enable OpenPGP/MIME" on GPGMail (under the Mail app preferences).

Every message sent before that still presents the issue due to the message caching mechanism on the Mail app (at ~/Library/Mail ...). In order to test if it was "fixed" (workaround), I was able to forward one of the affected messages to my own Gmail address, through Mail app and now it works fine. The same attachment (a ms word document file) wasn't corrupted.

It also happened with a different mail account (different from gmail) through IMAP. Now it's working fine. I'll keep an eye on that and if I find something different, I'll post it here.

+1 for me. struggle since a while with it. Thunderbird works.

I am situated in China since a while and experience the one or other fancy thing due to the chinese firewall. Just to make sure - are others with the same problem situated in china as well?

outlook, thunderbird, webinterface works, apple mail does not, re-downloading mails (removing ~/Library/Mail) does not help.

Would the only solutions be to delete or disable Google Apps if you want keep using Mail ?

Same problem here. But non-Gmail IMAP account. Most current Mail.app on 10.8.3.

In my case, the problem mainly occurs when moving messages between mailboxes (e.g. move from inbox to act mailbox, open message later > attachment is displayed as encoded text inside the mail content).

Choosing Mailbox -> Rebuild recovers the message. But that problem is just annyoing. Any news on this, maybe from Apple directly?
