VLC does not support the audio or video format "MNM4". Unfortunately there

Good morning folks!!

First ever post here but used it many times to help with issues but this time I am truly stumped!!

I have been asked to access some CCTV footage copied on to a CD. The files are saved as .avi but will not play on any of the software I have installed. I have QT, VLC, MPEG Streamclip, Flip4Mac, Perian and Div X.

When using VLC I get the message "VLC does not support the audio or video format "MNM4". Unfortunately there is no way for you to fix this."

I have searched all over the internet but I just keep going round in circles.

I have resigned myself to the fact that I will have to return the CD but just thought I would double check!

If anyone has encountered this before or has any other info please help a depressed man!!

Does the CD play back on a PC or a DVD player other that your Mac?

Peter,

I attempted to play the CD on a PC in our office.

It opened up the file using Windows Media player but it wouldn't play.

An error message came up saying "Windows encountered a problem while playing the file".

The PC's in our office are all used for admin purposes and are not of any high spec however.

We don't have a DVD player in the office but I doubt it would play anyway.

I have a similar situation. I'm assuming you never found a solution to this.

The CD I received actually had software on it ( I assume what came with the DVR) called DVR Player.

Says it's from Wal-Mart.

However I still cannot get it to read the avi file and there is nothing else the software can open on the CD.

VLC has the exact same message.

I can't get any converter to recognize it either or anything to even play it.

Download the "Evidence Reviewer" and it should work on your work PC. I am not certain about Macs yet. The VLC player, Windows Media, etc., nothing worked until my husband suggest I download this. It is free, but it takes a few steps. But at least I can finally review surveillance footage!!!
