Is the ipad 2 3g locked or not??????

Hi,
I'm planning to buy an ipad2 with 3g, I live in the US but next year I will move back to Germany, so I need to know if I can use my ipad with a german carrier.
I can find online both answers (yes the at&t modell will work the ipad is unlocked, and no the us ipads are locked to att or verizon) and now I don't know what to believe. In my apple store I asked two diffrent men and one said locked and one said unlocked!!!!!Please help!

This may be too late of an answer for you, but we have an American version AT&T iPad2 and live in Germany. Just purchased a data plan from O2 and it works great. T-mobile and Vodafone offer plans as well that will work for you next year. I am sure others can support it too, but those were the only companies we researched.

I am a similar case like you, in US for couple of months and then I go back to India.

Hi guys!

Please clarify!

I have an ipad 3g 64gb running on 3.2 firmare, baseband 6.15. I'm using another carrier, not a ATT.

I want to update firmware to 4.2.1 or the latest and a bit confused.

Will the update change the baseband and the 3G option will be locked? or it will stay unlocked?

On an associated note - with the new IOS and the removal of our ability to edit the APN, is it still easy to swap out a US AT&T micro-SIM for a prepaid UK micro-SIM?

hi guyz i have a smilar situation, i'm willing to buy ipad 2 from us and i'm going back to australia 2 weeks after, so is there any problem if i buy it in US and activate it in Australia? and i'm i still covered by warranty ( international warranty ) ?

For anyone who is questioning the CDMA vs. GSM issue (Europe is GSM). They are two different systems, based upon different phenomena and decoding algorithms.

If a company has CDMA equipment, it is the towers, the base stations, the software, etc.

If a company has GSM equipment, it is the towers, the base stations, the software, etc.

This is why a Verizon phone (CDMA) will not work on AT&T or Tmobile. Since AT&T and Tmobile are both GSM, I would hope an unlocked GSM device will work on either system, just by inserting the correct sim card.

I got ipad2 3G with ATT and planning to travel to India, were you able to use you ipad2 with 3G support from Airtel or someone other 3G provider in India? please share your experience, does IPAD2 3G come as unlocked?

Yes, the iPad 2 3G from ATT is UNLOCKED.
