so much to do! so little time..

i just bought a new macbook pro 15" its my first mac and i cant decide where to start. i want to install some kind of anti-virus first and any other essentials as well. any suggestions where to go from there? tips? anythings welcome:)

Macbook pro, Mac OS X (10.6.7), i7, 500gb 7500rpm,8gb RAM
