Unable to copy files to external drive

I'm trying to copy some files to an external Maxtor OneTouch 4 hard drive (it's previously been used with a PC). However, when I get info -> Sharing & Permissions it tells me I can only read. How do I change this so I can copy some files over?

Mac Pro 8 Core, 6GB Ram, Mac OS X (10.6.7)

Paragon Software has excellent support for Macs, Boot Camp, HFS+ and NTFS, and has non-destructive conversion HFS <=> NTFS.

Supported and been using for half a dozen years. Inexpensive and far from being "crapware" probably someone with no personal experience.
