Remove or at least turn off Game Center

I can't stand it that I HAVE to have Game Center. It's absolutely frustrating that I cannot completely disable it. I do not care what my score is compared to anyone, and if don't log in, I end up having to wait for it to load just so I can click cancel. Absolutely ridiculous. Poor setup, poor customer service with this issue. Allow full user controls on this. Why force a user to have to use an app? Not acceptable.

I too can't stand it, don't use it....my way of handling it? the app is tucked into a folder with the other apps I deem bloatware, I've never signed into it, never created an account, and when I buy games I deliberately buy ones or versions that are not game center versions.

Never had it harass me beyond the initial 'sign in' which I dismissed

Yes! You CAN completely disable Game Center prompts and greetings, and still enjoy Game Center-enabled games. (Life without Temple Run, Skydiver119? Seriously?)

1) If you have signed up for Game Center and now wish to opt out, launch Game Center. Click on your account name, and select "Sign Out" from the pop-up.

2) Launch "Settings" and select "Notifications." Under "In Notification Center" find and select Game Center.

3) Turn all the sliders to "OFF," and set "Alert Style" to "None."

That's it. You will have no more annoying alerts telling you you're not signed in to Game Center, and urging you to sign up. You will have no more annoying "Welcome back" greetings every time you play a Game Center game.

Did you go into the Notification settings, turn all the Game Center sliders to "OFF" and set the Alert Style to "None"?

I play a number of different Game Center-enabled games on my iPad 2 (iOS 6.0), and I no longer get messages of any kind from Game Center.

But, I do agree that Apple could do a much better job of making it easy to completely opt out of Game Center. They need a "Don't ask me again" box on the popup that asks you if you want to sign in to Game Center.

Also, if you are signed in, if you remove everybody from your friends list you won't get any more messages about what they're doing.

I somehow managed to turn it off before, but when I now updated to 6.0 GC was back and anoying on my iphone, my son´s iphone and my Ipad. I have turned off everything that has to do with GC on all units, but still, when I opened a gameapp it poped up. After several attempts opening a gameapp and choosing decline (or abort or what it is in english) att the top left of the GC pop up, I was asked if I wanted to deactivate GC. I chose YES and then tried the same on my other units. I had to try several times opening the same gameapp, before I was given the choice to deactivate GC. So far, it seems to work.......

I have the same experience as Jolyboly. I never had any game center games until after I upgraded to iOS 6, then I downloaded a couple. I kept getting the annoying popups to sign in to game center even though I had all game center notifications completely disabled. After a while it stopped. Mabe it prompts you a certain number of times before acknowleding your desire to not use game center - then offers the option to disable it.

If anyone else is bothered by the sign in prompts and doesn't want to actually sign in, you could test this theory. Open a game center game, select Cancel at the GC sign in prompt, exit the game, repeat several times, see if it eventually gives you the ability to opt out.

I've tried the Cancel-strategy and the funny thing is I tap every time on "disable GameCenter" but GameCenter keeps popping up at every game I start. That said, until a few weeks ago I had GameCenter enabled and it disturbed me that every time I am out of the country (and with roaming off) I had to tap around many times just to play a little game. Apple has to get its act together. I have sent them feedback about this after every iOS-update. I've forgotten how many times…

Well yes, as you said, it helps, but doesn't remove it. Every time I start a game, there is still the "Welcome back, lemon-kun" banner – no problem on Wi-Fi, but when you are somewhere with only 3G or Edge connection, your game lags until it has loaded GameCenter and the Welcome-back-banner is gone. Sometimes that takes quite some time (OK, I am with a 3GS, probably it's better with the newer phones – the new iPhone sits right here on my desk, waiting for the new micro-mini-something-SIM-card :-)

However, when you are out of the country (I live in Switzerland, a quite small country, so it happens quickly that you find yourself in Germany, France, Italy or Austria) and you have roaming disabled, then you get prompted to the settings, etc. etc. etc.

It's really annoying that one can't disable it. BTW, same with notification centre: can't be stopped. This is even more disturbing: during playing a game, as soon as you drag your finger from the top down, this stupid wall with the weather and calendar entries comes down. I don't need that, it just disturbs me, I don't think it is good design anyway (it's copied from the Android OS…), still, I can't disable it. Even if you remove all apps from notification centre, there will still drop down an empty wall, written: "No New Notifications". What a joke.

Thanks lemon-kun.

I followed your suggestions and now at least now Game Center pops up when we start Angry Birds but I can just slide it down and there is Angry Bird ready to go.

Now I going to send another feedback to Apple about their arrogance in forcing us to participate in something we do not want and consider an invasion of privacy. Yes, I know there are lots of them in Apple products....
