iPad 2 glass repair/replacement

So I have my iPad that is now cracked. Pictures are below.

The iPad was dropped from about mid body/underarm and slide and roll off of me.
It fell onto asphalt while it had a Smart Cover on and a sleeve on it.

I would just get the glass fixed but the body is chipped too.
This is the sleeve.

I am planning on going into the Apple store tomorrow (I have an appointment) and seeing what they will do or offer me as a price.

Just as a fun note. I got this as my second iPad 2 because the first one had a small spot of back light bleeding... This one has it around EVERY side! My dad's has it and so does my sister's... 4 out of 4 back light problem.

If anyone else has had their glass replaced could you let me know the price point or what they offered you as a replacement?

It is pretty clear that apple did a good job on creating ipad, but in my case i'm quite sure that the product is not durable enough up to the standard i expect from apple. i had a 3mm dent on the top-right corner, and never accidentally fell from my grip whatsoever. the only possible cause is when i pushed it into the last corner of the hard back cover which i bought from the premium apple reseller in my city. the problem started early january about 4months after the back cover purchase, mainly with the wifi connections. now it shows no-wifi everytime i switch it on. i brought it to the service centre and they ask me to pay around usd430 eventhough it's still under 1year-warranty. i only wished apple could make a fair judgement on the damage and instropect themselves on the product durabilty. i could only try and bring it to other countries svc ctr and hope to get some luck. otherwise it's gonna be my first and last ipad for me

It would be technically possible to build an iPad impervious to the sorts of damage routinely suffered from careless humans, I suppose ... but who would buy it? It is equally possible to take the current one and give it a reasonable amount of protection and care while using it, keeping in mind that it is in fact a sensitive and expensive bundle of glass and aluminum and electronics.

I think I'm like most, I fall into the group preferring the second alternative above, and somehow have managed to keep my original iPad functioning and still relatively attractive cosmetically for pretty close to two years now. It's been dropped and tossed in the interim, has been a food tray and a baby plaything, but has always been supervised and lives most of the time in a case which provides much more than decoration.

I was driving down the road a few weeks ago and the truck ahead kicked up a piece of gravel and dinged my windshield. Gahhh! My first thought wasn't that Ford should make armored windshields, or that trucks shouldn't be allowed on the road, or that the government should do a better job of keeping those hazards away from me. It was just one of those things, those irritating and inconvenient parts of life that you just have to deal with, not anything at all worth obsessing about. Sort of like speeding tickets: Intermittent taxes, randomly applied.

thank you for our analogy about life and how to care the product ..... if you noticed, the discussions about wifi related topics already reached more than 400,000. not all of them are human error or careless humans as you may say. so i supposed apple should work on to deal with the issue just the same as inconvinient part of life that we all have to deal with.... of course for the better of all

FYI, i also have mac book pro besides ipad which work perfectly fine and which is why i expect the same to my ipad.....

We are all humans afterall....

For anyone thinking about getting their tablet warranteed by SquareTrade, consider my repair experience. The screen was not nearly as good as the original, missing the oleophobic coating, meaning the glass isn't "slippery" and is NOT scratch resistant anymore. A table napkin will scratch the screen, and fingerprints will stain it permanently if left on.

Hello just thought I'd put my point across I had my iPad 2 for about 2 weeks when I knocked it of the side and the glass screen cracked.

It was still useable but looked horrible. Anyway I took it to the apple shop to see what they could do and the guy behind the counter took one look at it then said we can repair for you but it will cost £260

I was shocked that just short of a weeks wages for me so I quickly left the shop.

When I got home I looked on the Internet and found a company that will repair it for £100 I was amazed that they could do it so cheap I ordered the repair and sent them my iPad by post and got my IPad back in 2day I couldn't believe it was so quick.

I checked my iPad out and it was perfect you would never tell it had been dropped I was so happy the level of service these guys provided is brilliant they even sent me a tracking number by email to tell me the iPad is on its way back to me. Now I have a lovely working iPad again.

Any way if you are from the uk and have broken your screen on any apple device I would recommend using these guys I also think they repair blackberry as well but can't be sure the address is http://www.mobilepartshop.co.

brilliant service

My Ipad 2 slipped out of it's case today and landed on the edge from 3 ft. The screen cracked, and I went to the Genius Bar at Apple in San Diego, and they quoted me about half the price of my 64gb ipad. They told me they do replacments and don't even repair your screen. I have been an Apple customer since the Apple 2, and always felt they did right by their customers, but charging more for 64gb screen damage than 16gb screen damage is plain wrong. The damage is the same. I don't expect a free repair, but I do not expect to be gouged by them either. At the time I purchased the 2 not too long ago, they didn't have any accidental damage program. Now they do for new purchases( and within 29 days of your purchase), but the rest of us are screwed.

Apple needs to be a little more reasonable on their repair costs. I have spent over $40,000 over the years with them, and now I am wondering if I will keep up my annual Apple purchases if this is how we are treated. With their margins, they can do better than this by their customers.

I hope they revise their policies to ensure customer loyalty. We pay a premium for their products because we love the designs, but we also expect to be treated right. Let's hope their greed doesn't get in the way of a great customer experience

I have an Apple iPad 2 also and I dropped it earlier, which did no harm to it but when I dropped it again it lost all power. The screen did not crack, but the device did not turn on or function at all. I contacted Apple and spoke to a kind worker, he guided me through some steps to try bringing the iPad to working order. Unfortunately - none of the steps in which he guided me through worked, so he then told me that I would receive a box and that I should put the iPad in it. Because I bought the iPad only about 6 months ago I was under AppleCare warranty and I also purchased a warranty plan anyway. He said they would replace the iPad. I think that if you are kind and calm with them, they will respect that and help you. If you are demanding and ignorant then its obvious that they won't be helpful.

I have bought IPAD 2 and three weeks later I found a small crack in the glass on the corner on the white strip , of course my kids denied they did anything to it, I went to apple store in regent street they asked for £199 to replace it I tried another apple store they said the same thing and even the warrantee is lost they said because of the screen has small crack.

This is stupid why should I lose the warrantee on the battery or other parts I think the company started to show real greediness after Mr Jobs. I promise you this company will go Down the hill .

As I have IPhone and IPad but now I will never buy from apple again and I don't really recommend it to any body from now on as their customer support becoming worse and worse.

Nokia has fixed my fine for free after 18month although the there was a rack in the screen..

Nokia gives 24 month while apple gives 12 month and even the 12 months now worth nothing because the try to play with words and small prints .

My iPad 2 fell from my hand to the sidewalk (about 2.5 feet) while I was walking in to work. I have a nice case on it, but the angle it hit, the iPad didn't have a chance. Although everything functions, you can tell the glass is getting looser and chipping off from underneath my screen protector. Since work didn't buy any insurance on it and wouldn't fix it, I was on my own... Went to the Apple Store and honestly, they weren't very nice to me. They weren't necessarily rude, but I felt absolutely no sympathy or compassion for something I was genuinely upset about. They could at least fake it that they cared about their customer. They quoted me like $249 to replace it.

I took it to a friend who runs a computer/phone repair shop and he's going to try to fix it... We shall see. They need to have a better solution for people with a broken iPad though. My iPhone is solid as a rock. These are far too fragile, I think.

Beware of outside "insurance". I looked into that as well when I got my Ipad 2 and now 3. In small print on most that I have seen, the insurance company repairs it!!!!! You send it to them. If its deemed unrepairable thats when they send you a new one. So thats why you see those pics above of a half A-- job. If anything I would go with apple care plus if you think its needed. Then apple will take care of it.

On another note: it does take A LOT to break the Ipad 2 glass!! So the I never dropped it isnt the best excuse. Not calling people liars, but thats why apple will look at them funny with that story. I know defects do exist and isnt my place to decide. However, It isnt weak by any means. I found a video of someone testing it. 2" high and it could be bent too the floor without cracking. Its deff more durable than the Ipad 1. Im sure there are a bunch more videos out there if you google them.
