Final Cut Pro X

I guess that as Apple has told the world about FCP 10 then (basic) questions can be asked....

1) Do you still need to (officially) transcode into Quicktime? or will it handle say DVCPro HD natively?
2) Is there upgrade pricing or does everyone pay $299 regardless
3) A video I saw had the presenter refer to FCP 10... if I'm using the latest which is 7 where did 8 & 9 go?
Cheers

My MBP has the GeForce 8600M GT chip, which has a known defect with a working life of anywhere from 1 day to forever, ya never know. The LBs were never updated (as far as I know) but are replaced when the GPU burns out. I had one LB last 1 year, another 1 month, and then another about 6 months. The one in there now must be about 1.5 years, knock on wood.

On lion, yes, I've done it...several times now.

Thanks CCFCP!

There was a whole other thread on this over here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3134652?start=15&tstart=0

You just answered it 🙂

On the MBP, I had mine for over 2 years before the LB went. Man, I hope I don't have to have it done again... the Apple store is 1 hour away...

Question on that. When you had the last LB installed, was it over 4 years since you first purchased your MBP?

No, it was within 3 years (Apple care + extended defect warranty). Not sure how long the Nvidea defect extends the warranty, but my guess is that here in Nepal, it may be forever if that particular chip fails...they are very nice here.

Here's the Apple support white paper on it: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377

Which says 4 years from the original date of purchase.... regardless of apple care or any original warranty, even if warranty is expired... I'm wondering if they'll replace another one if you are over 4 years from original date of purchase... even if they have been replacing bad LB's with other bad LB's. Man.... is there any good news coming out of Apple lately? This is all quite depressing. 😐

No, this is all good news. Apple takes care of it's customers (as in the case of the Nvidia chip, they did the right thing...noting this was an Industry problem where that chip was put into Sony and others) and FCPX will be fixed up over time as well, my prediction. Althought I can't use in my biz right now, it sure is fun to play with.

You need to either make the section a compound clip and open the compound clip, or duplicate the project and delete the unneeded clips.

I think you're asking about transitions between connected clips. It can't be done. The clips have to be converted to a secondary storyline Cmd-G and then transitions can be added to the clips. It's clumsy because the secondary is only connected at one point while the connected clips are each connected separately to clips on the primary.

Hey people....i am having a little bit of a challenge here...is it possible to detach you audio/music track from a clip in the timeline in final cut pro x???

It's like so annoying anytime i move a clip where my audio/music file is attached to..it moves the whole clip and messes up the timing of my video i created...it used to do the same thing in imovie...i thought with final cut x it would upgrade...😕

whoever has a solution to this...thank you
