Is the iPad 2 light bleeding issue fixed yet?

Did Apple finally fix the issue of light bleeding from under the bezel or are defective iPad 2s
still being sold?

Anybody knows?

Ezazz,

that doesn't sound like apple. I'm sure it was just the employee!

They have an obligation to you as there is a 1 year warranty with the iPad, and they should honour that. I would recommend going in again and asking to speak to someone else, or someone higher up.

Also,

I phoned up Applecare as my iPad has backlight bleeding as well. I asked if Apple were aware of them problem and was told that they are.The Applecare man asked me if he should make an appointment for me in my local Apple Store but I said that I have read of people having replaced their iPad 2's multiple times just to have the same problem, and that this is too much hassle. I then asked how long I should wait to go into my Apple store for a replacement, and was told 4 months! (I'm like woah, by then the iPad 3 will almost be out) but I plan to wait a month or two and phone up to see if the problem is sorted as the problem shouldn't take so long to fix. C'mon APPLE!! (I know they don't read this, lol)

I am sure there are some people with no issues, but many people like me won't notice it or think its normal. I wouldn't have really noticed it if I hadn't read it on these forums. But there must be some people with perfect iPads!

I don't know whether this is a good or bad thing, 4 months is way tooo long but! If anyone else phones up to inquire please post here.

Hope this helps!!

You know, this might actually be a blessing in disguise! One of the reps mentioned that the next ipad will be something to truly behold and that the iPad 2 was rushed to 'slaughter' the RIM's Playbook.

But you are right, if I can wait 4 months, I can basically wait for the next model.
In the meantime I am going to get one for my mom. She will love facetime and never even
know there is a problem with the screen.

The reps don't know anymore than anyone else regarding the next release of any Apple product. I highly doubt Apple will release another iPad this year... past history for any iOS device supports this.

My 64GB WiFi black model came in last week. Only VERY slight leakage. Cranked the brightness up all the way, put a bright photo on the screen, and put some books on it land left it for 4 hours.

Strange, that is want they told me to do two weeks ago when i told them of my tiny leakproblem.

Should i try it? (i am still waiting for my replacement)

iPad 2, bought on March 25, defective
iPad 2 bought on April 3, defective
iPad 2 bought on April 9, defective

iPad 2 white, bought on April 14 Much better except for two small bleeds on the left side.
My mom will never notice. Hopefully she likes the white frame.
I may end up waiting for the next model.

Hey everyone,

Just purchased my iPad 2 yesterday from the Apple Store in Birmingham. It was the last one left in the store so you can imagine how happy I was to get one finally! However I have also noticed mine is suffering from this backlight bleeding problem, in quite a few spots around the screen. I also have either a couple of dead pixels or a large piece of dust stuck under the glass in the middle of the screen, which is equally annoying. Will Apple exchange this for me? Should I ring up the nearest Apple store and see what they'll do? *_I love this device and just wanna get on and use it, but for the money I'm paying I don't think I should put up with defects. What's everyone's advice?_*

As you're in the UK you have the protection of the Sale of Goods Act when it comes to having purchased a product that isn't of "merchantable quality". So as I presume you paid a lot of money for this item and it's clearly, from what you say, defective I would be inclined to suggest that you return it for a full refund if they're not able to provide you with a replacement that is free of any defects. Incidentally IMHO nobody should put up with any defects in something they've bought.

Why don't people just keep the iPad and get it replaced at a later date. Surely the backlight bleed cant be that bad that you can't live with it for a couple of months until you get a replacement

The problem then becomes that the seller could argue that because you've kept hold of it for a few months (and presumably used it during that time) you clearly accepted the problem rather than returning it straight away when you became aware of the problem. It just makes life a lot easier for the buyer in terms of exercising their consumer rights if they return it as soon as possible.

After 5 days i called first Apple, they gave me a casenumber and said i should make an exchange in my store whete I bought it. I went to the store and am waiting for two weeks already. They also said i should not worry about it and use my current ipad and when they have new ones they will call me.
I called today and they still haven't got any new ones, but that is ok. As the store where i bought it has the best exchange reputation in Spain. But still the best thing is to inform always Apple ASAP.

I got my iPad 3 days after it was released in Canada. Light leaked at the bottom. I called Apple and they said take it back. As I was just leaving for Cuba I waited until I returned. Went to Apple Store and they ordered me a new one. The new one arrived the next day and has no problems. This light problem looks like a hit and miss problem. Couldn't be happier with Apple's response to my problem.

That's not the way Apple's warranty works. You have a warranty against defects for one year. (Which you can extend to two years with AppleCare.) If you have a defect, you can have your iPad repaired or replaced (at Apple's option) any time within the one year warranty period. You can wait until the supply of iPads increases (and Apple has suggested this to users, according to their posts on this board) and then seek repair/replacement for a defective iPad, as long as you're within the warranty period.
