Dear KiltedTim, with all due respect your response is not helpful. Please, for your knowledge and understanding of the issues read all of the following discussion:

Did you have an "old" iPhone 3G still works properly and is useful to their normal duties? ... ;-)
My response may not be helpful to you, but in all honesty, I have to say that NO response is going to be helpful to you. The facts are what they are. Deal with it.
KiltedTim Dear, thank you very much for your attention and for making me aware of a policy of Apple with its products and therefore to its valued customers ... I am an "illuminated" now ... ;-)
If you feel that strongly about a possible security problem with your old 3G iPhone then your only alternative is to update to newer supported hardware there is no other alternative. Nothing is ever supoorted forever.

Raoulec, Apple doesn't have to publish a timeline of how long they support their products. When they stop releasing updates for a particular product, that is their way of announcing they no longer support that product. The last software update for the iPhone 3G was 4.2.1. Apple has not made any other software updates available to iPhone 3G; thus, the product is no longer supported. It's been said here repeatedly--the 3G iPhone is OLD. Three years old is ancient for a technology product. Regardless of what you think about the security issues with the 3G, it will not ever be supported by Apple again. Period. End of story!
Dear Leann O., perhaps you work for Apple? ... Or perhaps you have an iPhone 3G?
Please read the entire contents of this discussion and associates, for just then being able to express an opinion of closure to this discussion. Best regards and thank you very much for your understanding.
I don't work for Apple. Not sure what that has to do with anything. I am a student in the information technology field. And yes, I did have a 3G, but recently got an iPhone 4. You seem to like to argue for the sake of arguing. If you are so upset about this 3G thing, tell Apple. Nobody here can do anything for you. Apple is going to tell you the same thing we've been trying to tell you, that the 3G iPhone is no longer supported. Actually, they probably won't respond at all, but it's worth a shot.

Are you going to still posting this in 2015?
Geez, I hope not. ;-)
I don't expect that the 3G will be supported forever, however, in Canada it was only sold with a three year contract.
I don't expect any computer to be fully secure, and that includes the iPhone. It would be nice if the product were fully supported to the end of the contract period though.
