Safari 5.0.5 for Snow Leopard

After installing the new 5.0.5 and security updates, my Safari now crashes on load. I have tried uninstalling it an re-installing with the 5.0.5 dmg from Apple's website - same thing. I have 9 error reports in my library which have all, supposedly, been sent to Apple.

Is anyone else experiencing this? I have Chrome installed, so I have a functional browser, but I had grown to prefer Safari for its stability in recent months after being a long-time Firefox user.

Unfortunately, the only way to change the default browser is within Safari / Preferences - General.

You could try troubleshooting the Safari .plist file too.

Open a Finder window. Select your Home Folder in the Sidebar on the left. It has a small house icon. Then open the Library folder then the Preferences folder.

Move the com.apple.Safari.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Desktop.

Try launching Safari.

So, I tried restating my Mac with nothing but the power cable plugged in, and that didn't help.

Then, I trashed the Safari.plist file, restarted my Mac, and now Safari works! (even with peripherals)

I can go to the "Top Sites" page and that seems to work too (no crashing). I think starting a new preference file did the trick.

Thank you Carolyn!
