When I connect iPod Shuffle to a computer which does not not have iTunes, the orange led keeps on blinking (I waited 5 hours) and never turns green. When IPod is conneccted to a computer with iTunes and iTunes is running, the blinking orange led turns to steady orange. Then afer 1-2 hours it turns to steady green. It seems that iPod is not charged when the orange led is blinking i.e. iPod is like a strogage device. How to get iPod charged in a computer without iTunes? I would not like to by the accessory charger just for that.
A blinking orange light simply means that the iPod Shuffle is currently mounted on the computer as a memory stick. It has nothing to do with charging or the charge status. It will continue to blink orange until you unmount the Shuffle, regardless of its charge status. It WILL charge while it is mounted. If you unmount it, and keep it connected to the computer, the Shuffle should show a solid orange while charging, and a solid green when charged.
Unmount as in unmount a drive or CD or disk or external media. Unmount means the same as Eject — the Desktop icon will disappear, as will the little Eject button next to the iPod icon in the playlist area.
