What does Checkmark at the top of the image mean?

Seems to have to do something with image versions. When I create a version of a master file one of the files in the new stack has this checkmark while the other one hasn't one. So it is either indicating a version or a master file I assume. I cannot check this out because my Powermac hasn't enough memory atm - some modules are away for replacement due to malfunction.

This means that the checked image is the "pick" in a stack or within a group of versions. I find that Aperture puts that check mark there when you add adjustments to a version. To me, this means that Aperture assumes that because you are adding adjustments, it is probably better than the the non-adjusted version. You can of course change the "pick" by selecting another image and choosing the appropriate menu item (sorry I don't have Aperture on this computer right now, so I can't tell you which one) or you can click on that green box with a check mark in it if you have put in your toolbar.

This isn't quite right.

There are several possible "picks".

There's a stack pick. Which is the version on the left of the stack. This is the same for any place that the stack may appear. Change it in one place and they all change.

There's a version set pick. So far, I haven't seen how these differ from stack picks, other than the fact that they nest within stacks.

And there's potentially an album pick which can be distinct from the stack pick.

I only see the check mark when a stack in an album has an album pick set.

I'm surprised that no one has responded to this yet. Apple's documentation says that you can import a heirachal nested folder from the finder and maintain the structure. The reality is that it doesn't at all.

I believe this is a bug in the code.

That is correct. The check mark means that it is an album pick. If you want to remove the check mark, click stacks, and clear album pick.
