iTunes will not burn CD's!!!!

when i put a new blank CD in and select an album for copying it goes through the normal process until the last moment when instead of saying 'finishing disk' or 'closing disk' or whatever it usual says it says 'cancelling disk' and then says that an error has occured and the CD does not work anymore. and i cannot use it again. i go through the same process on a different computer and it works normally.?!?!?!?

any suggestions?

Alex,

Need just a little info.
First, what type of machine are you using.
Second, have you burned audio CDs on this machine before.
Third, when you say "album", do you mean a PLAYLIST in iTunes?
Fourth, have you changed anything about your PC lately (i.e. upgraded iTunes, added programs, etc).

Thanks,

Mick

Hi Michael, I saw your reponse to a similer problem and thought maybe you might have some answers for me. I burned purchased music from itunes onto a cd from a newly created playlist, but it will only play back in itunes and will not play on any external cd player or even on my windows media player.Help what am I doing wrong?? (I'm not very computer savvy, but am able to find my way around if I keep trying) Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Reddox2

I guess we should start out by checking your settings to burn a CD.

First, make sure under EDIT > Preferences > Advanced Tab > Burning Tab you have Disk Format: Audio CD selected.

If that is already selected and you burned an AUDIO CD that still doesn't work, you might want to try changing the burning speed. Sometimes that can make a difference depending the quality of media you are using.

Let me know if that helps any. Although, it is interesting that the CD plays in iTunes and no where else. That makes me think it is making a DATA or MP3 disk in a format not recognized by your other devices/software.

Are you using the same computer to play the CD in iTunes and Media Player?

Mick,
I am having the same problem Alex is. iTunes will start to burn a CD from a playlist, but will cancel either immediately after starting to burn the first song or shortly after. iTunes says "The attempt to burn the CD failed. An unknown error occurred (4000)" I've also seen the same message with (4500) after.
I have burned cds before. I was able to burn a data cd through another program today. Any help whatsoever would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Michelle

I didn't check back here for awhile because I was able to fix it initially. I followed another post by you and downloaded the update to my nVidia driver. But now I'm back to the same problem. The Get Drive Speed Failed Error Code part is the first time I've seen it. Here is my latest CD Diagnostic:

Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 (Build 2600)

UpperFilters: GEARAspiWDM (2.0.4.3), pwd_2k (8.0.5.39),

If you have multiple drives on the same IDE or SCSI bus, these drives may interfere with each other.
Some computers need an update to the ATA or IDE bus driver, or Intel chipset. If iTunes has problems recognizing CDs or hanging or crashing while importing or burning CDs, check the support site for the manufacturer of your computer or motherboard.

Current user is administrator.

D: HP CD-Writer cd16f, Rev 1.1D
Media in drive is blank.
Get drive speed failed. Error Code: 2020.

E: TOSHIBA DVD-ROM SD-M1502, Rev 1816
Drive is empty.

The last failed audio CD burn had error code 4450(0x00001162). It happened on drive D: HP CD-Writer cd16f on CDR media at speed 4X.

Since I know you're bombarded with similar requests, any clues would be appreciated.
