My shuffle is not recognized in i-tunes and is only recognized as "unknown device" in device manager. I've tried alllll the r's in support, and the suggestions in these posts, nothing works for me. However I believe i need to add a new drive, because when plugged into the usb, there is still no other drive than c: / d:. yet it comes up under the usb connections in device manager.
Help:(
I have got windows 2000 with services pack 4 (only this services pack works with lasted USB devices) at home and it said the same problems!!! I do not know windows XP Home edition but Pro works (because has the drivers for you USB devices).

We have a 1 GB and a 512 MB Shuffle. The 1GB was working fine until we updated with the latest IPOD updater. It sounds to me as if they have a bug in it, because everyone seems to just be developing the problems. The computer we are trying does not have USB 2.0 and says it doesnt recognize the device. When we move to my laptop, it will work. The problems developed after we loaded updater 2005-11-17. The funny part is that the 512MB is being recognized. How are we able to tell Apple they have a bug in the updater.
I am having this problem, along with the constant orange blinking light on another thread. When I tried to restore using the new updater version, it says it cannot mount the ipod. So I am stuck. It won't play and I can't fix it. Very frustrating.
My Ipod shuffle when connected to the uSB port it is recognised as an unknown device.
The amber light in the Shuffle is blinking when connected.
If I try to Restore to factory setting uding the latest updater it either shows "initializing" or the Auto play starts and it never stops.
Help me to overcome this problem and how to restore the Shuffle to factory setting
Same problem I have a TECRA 9100 Laptop (USB 1.1) and the ipod is seen as an unknown device. It works on other PCs and it works with the docking station via the additional USB ports.
Other thumb drives, mice etc. .all work via the onboard USB. Any thoughts?
wow...and i thought im the only 1 with this problem....anyone of you guys manage to solve it?
i have been screening all the possible solution and all i get is 0...sad case man....same old music for the rest of the ipod life?
wanted to restore..but cant detect it..so how??
I have the same problem, however I ran into an issue where iTunes would not start so I uninstalled the program.
I was wondering, does iTunes have to be installed or running for the shuffle to operate in disk mode ot should the shuffle act as a normal jump drive regardless?
