can I add dividers to bookmark menu?

In Navigator you could add divider lines in the bookmarks pull-down menu to group folders together. Is there a way to do that in Safari, or is there an add-on that wiil perform that function?

Safari does not have dividers you can add to the Bookmarks menu. You can create your own. Open the Show All Bookmarks page and open the Bookmarks Menu entry. Duplicate any bookmark and place it where you want a divider. Rename the bookmark with a string of dashes. Replace the location with "javascript:0;" (without the quote marks). Now look at you Bookmarks menu. The divider will take up as much vertical space as a regular bookmark because Safari gives it a generic favicon, but nothing happens when you try to click on it.

BTW, you can use the same trick to make a divider on the Bookmarks Bar. Use a "|" as the name instead of a string of dashes. The downside of using this trick on the Bookmarks Bar is that you loose the Command-Number command for the location of your spacer as there is nothing to call.

Maybe someone else has come up with a more elegant fix.

Thanks Tom,

I tried it and it's not a very elegant solution...rather ugly as a matter of fact. I even tried using spaces, non-breaking spaces and en spaces instead of dashes to make it look nicer, but Safari converts them all to dashes.

Looking at Netscape, they don't even bother with the icons to the left of the names -- the triangle alone to the right of the name indicates a folder -- a much nicer-looking menu, IMHO.

I'll try sending feedback to Apple.

Thanks again!
