iTUNES WON'T PLAY ANYTHING

i'll keep it short. exactly the same problem here. has always been fine and i was listening to it last night(1/01/2006) and when i wake up it's not working. please find a solution.

Basically got the same problem. Sort of like iTunes has stage fright, everything works ( I can import CD's etc) but when the play pause button is toggled, I get no movement of the diamond on the progress bar. THe play/pause icon switches like normal, but no sound or progress (diamond doesn't move). I can drag the diamond to any point in the track, but still no playing. All the normal informtiaon is displayed in the main display (Album / Artist and track name are scrolling) and I can select tracks normally and the info is displayed normally.

I have been having this problem for several weeks and have noticed the following:

Multi tasking seems to bring the problem on, for instance, if I listen to a track while importing a CD, iTunes (or maybe my PC) seems to have a hard time keeping up. THE track playing will stutter and I also notice that the information displayed in iTunes gets all jumbled up, the track names and album titles etc are overlayed on top of each other. Usually just selecting another source will correct the jumbled up info.

Most of the time I have to re-boot to get i-Tunes functioning again, but there have been a few times where it just begins playing again on it's own.



I have tried Apples suggestion of installing Quicktime as a stand alone. No change.

Pulling out what's left of my hair!!!!!!!

Just realized that I am having some other / possibly related problems.

Quicktime opens and attemtps to play and then locks up after a couple of seconds and has to be shut down using task manager.

Windows medai player appears to play tracks ( progress bar is moving) but I get no sound.

Vinyl may make a comeback soon................

yea im having the exact same problem... it started like the 29th of dec. i tried everythin u did too...

I've had a similar problem to everyone. My iTunes has worked perfectly, then suddenly a couple days ago it started skipping a lot and slowing down whenever a song was played, even to the point where my computer locks up for a few seconds. I hope they have a solution to this...

I am having the same problem..the diamond doesn't move , no sound...everything else is working i can still burn and download new songs ..i just can't hear them on itunes.....help...please...

I figured out how to fix this problem: just right click on the iTunes icon, enable compatability mode and set it to Windows 2000. Works fine now.

If I understand correclty, when running iTunes on an XP machine, the compatability mode should be un-checked.

OK, billy2112 , it works OK in QuickTime WMP so your sound card is OK, and so are its settings.

Could iTunes possibly have the speaker icon dragged too far to the left?

We are having the same problem here, Itunes worked fine until a few days ago and now it wont import or play songs.

Clcik on thew play button and nothing happens. I have tried the compatability change and then windows 2000 but it didnt do a thing.

I have also removed and reinstaled however it didnt fix it.

This issue seems to be affecting quite a lot if users i wonder if its a virus out there?

i tried the compatiblity thing also but it didnt do anything... i was thinkin that it might be a virus or worm or somethin but i scaned my computer with like 3 different antivirus programs but they didnt find anything.... maybe its too new for those programs.....

it seems to be a common issue I wonder if Apple are looking into it?

There are about 3 or 4 threads about this same issue? Do Apple actually look at this site to see what the problems are?

How do I go about reporting it to Apple?
