iTUNES WON'T PLAY ANYTHING

I've had iTunes for a while, and never had any problem with it. It imports CDs, and downloads to my iPod fine.

Recently, it stopped playing anything -- I hit the "play" button and nothing happens, for any song. I've removed it, reinstalled it, checked for latest directX version, and run the Apple troubleshooting checklist twice. No results. I "deathorized" the computer, and reinstalled -- same thing. My computer itself is in perfect working order and I consider myself an advanced user.

I've seen where others whose iTunes won't play just certain songs -- mine won't play any. Thanks in advance for the help.

Can you play a song in QuickTime? Because iTunes uses that.

QuickTime > File > Open File

Change the drop-down box from Files of type: Movies
to Files of type: Audio Files

Then browse out to a song file and see if it plays.

If it doesn't play in QT, try a QT standalone install.

Is this site a joke or what? Is there anybody from Apple who can actually solve problems from users here?

thats a **** good question cuz if that many people are havin the same problem that started bout the same time they should pay attention

It's a total joke, we just uninstalled itunes then reinstalled and still the same problem. It works fine with quick time, also it play videos but not songs.

all I can say is the support by apple is PATHETIC

ok i've got the same problem have uninstalled and reinstalled even tried using an older version it isn't playing either. again quicktime is fine

why doesn't apple have somewhere to report these pretty major faults

idk but im gonna call the support line thing tomorrow... does anybody with this problem have an iPod? or more than one kind? maybe thats the problem? idk

I dunno, but I give up. I removed and reinstalled, and used REGEDIT so many times now Itunes won't even open. My only hope now is a clean install of XP and keep my fingers crossed.

I bought the original Mac when it came out (1984), and owned 3 since then, but no longer. Say what you will about Windows, but the bottom line is it WORKS and support is available. iTunes stinks.

simply merge all your music to RealPlayer. Your headaches will be over.

i called costomer support line thing and they said it was a "network" problem and they couldnt do anythin about it at this time....? ***? so much for award winning support...

I had the exact problem and tried all that was recommened, all failed.
So I went to the Qick Time site and downloaded Quick Time as a Stand Alone and you have that option on that site. Now everything is operating like it should. I can double click on any song and it begins playing.
Hope this will also solve all of your problems too.

itunes or quicktime didnt work for me either, windows media player is working fine, itunes works when i plug my headphones in the computer, but not when i plug them in my speakers, the diamond moves, the time changes, and its playing i dunno what the **** is going on, it just stopped yesterday
