ITunes can't connect to Gracenote, CDDB but Windows Media Player CAN

Can't get track names through ITunes. I would assume Windows Media Player uses the same port and protocal to access Gracenote. So, if that's the case doesn't that indicate a problem with ITunes? I would think if WMP is working then that eliminates all firewall, virus suspicions, etc. I have ITunes 6.0 and didn't have this issue in prior versions. I've uninstalled and installed, no joy!!!

Any help out there?
Thanks,
Patrick

Windows Media Player does not use Gracenote, it uses something entirely different which works in an entirely different way.

Do you have any special proxy settings set up in Internet Explorer? That's the usual cause of this sort of thing. Failing that, some web accellerator type software will interfere, as will stuff like Internet Security programs and such.

I had same problem. I have Norton Internet Security 2006 and tried changing settings - no luck. I read all the KB's I could find on Apple, MS and Symantec/Norton websites - no luck. They all blame each other.

So I now disable Norton Internet Security and the lookup works fine.

Remaining problem is multiple crashes when importing from CD.

Good luck

I have tried everything I can think of to get CD song and artist information to load from gracenote. I can access and purchase music from apple store, but even when I disable Norton Internet Security (after already listing it as a "permit all" in the firewall as a trusted access) I still get no cd information from gracenote. No pop-ups or error codes either.
