Greetings! I have a huge library that has several files (often just one per album) where a contributing artist is present, and it majorly throws off iTunes (and makes a horrible mess on my iPod). Is there a naming scheme for filenames or artists that iTunes recognizes for files like "BB King and Eric Clapton - Riding With the King.mp3", or do I have to deal with seeing "BB King and Eric Clapton" as a distinct artist (as well as the hundred other people he has done tracks with)?
The only thing I can think of is this (I know it may not quite be appropriate for you but it may help)
Rename the Artist to JUST the main artist, which I am assuming is BB King, and then rename the title of the track by adding "Featuring Eric Clapton" so it would be "Riding With the King - Feat. Eric Clapton". That's what I have done to some of mine.
I'm all for "cleaning up", but iTunes does make it tricky at times. You've just gotta think of the best way to suit you 🙂
it does work regardless of being rip by iTunes or win media. all information can be edited through "properties" (not "get info"). go into the folder(not iTunes) and right click on the files select properties and click the summery tab. from there you will beable to edit any information you may desire.
I'm sorry, but manually renaming every song is completely unreasonable. There has to be a better solution. I have dozens of artists misnamed by iTunes and HUNDREDS of songs. For instance, Thievery Corporation uses guest vocalists on every song. The songs should all be listed under Thievery Corporation. Instead, they're listed as Guest Vocalist/Thievery Corporation. This is absolute nonsense. I don't know or care who the guest vocalist is. I am
thisclose to taking the darn thing back. I can't even imagine why someone thought this was a good idea. When you buy a CD, you buy it for the artist. So if I buy a Johnny Cash CD, every song on it should be listed under Johnny Cash, not Johnny Cash/Guest Vocalist. Ridiculous. Please, someone tell me how to fix this without manually renaming each file.
But as you dont care about the cont. artist you can select the entire album right click get info and change the name of the artist on all tracks at once
