dashboard/widgets

hopefully someone from apple reads this.... there seems to be a recent outbreak of dashboard/widget problems arising lately... can someone explain why the entire o.s. must be re-installed (as suggested by applecare) to solve a simple problem like accidentally deleted or non-working widget..... you have a whole section of downloads for dashboard but not the resident o.s. widgets.... can those not be added to the choices(seems easy enough) or even better the dashboard app. ..... anyhow my rant is done... curious if apple listens or if any users agree???

I agree, but even more so if that's possible. The basic "DASHBOARD" itself will not appear on my Puter. I even downloaded a complete OS 10.4-10.4.4 and reinstalled. The only good that did was to rob me of all my keychain preferences, etc.

Go to this URL and copy the terminal commands and it will work! It found and turned my Dashboard back-on.

Or just do this:

To turn Dashboard off, copy this command and paste into terminal:
defaults write com.apple.dashboard mcx-disabled -boolean YES

To turn Dashboard on, copy this command and paste into terminal:
defaults write com.apple.dashboard mcx-disabled -boolean NO

You have to restart the Dock after making either change for it to take effect, copy this command and paste into terminal:
killall Dock
